New tires! Nokian Vatiiva M/Ts

So I was able to locate a set of these tires. I have a quick question for the group. When I told the dealer I wanted these, his reaction was "you want MUD tires?"

He seemed surprised enough that I thought I'd as, mainly because I am not a "tire guy." Is there any issue with running "mud tires" like these, specifically for winter driving? I mean, every review I've seen of these tires says they're great on snow and ice.

How about running them year round? After I purchased the TE rims, I had initially planned on doing that. But if it's a problem or will cause a huge dip in mileage, I can always keep the 20" rims and stock tires (that I had planned to sell, because I think they're butt-ugly) and use those in the summer.

These Vatiiva's are not "monster" tires, as you can see from Prolex's photos (265/70/r17's) so I can't imagine there would be a major issue. The again, I know squat about tires.

Any and all feedback is much appreciated.

Man I just got around to checking this thread months later! Sorry! On the sidewall of the tire itself it says "Mud+Snow"

Here is another shot of the tires. They are wearing evenly and I have gotten many compliments on them. Over the weekend I installed some Spidertrax 1.25" spacers all around and it really gives it a nicer looking stance.

Dude that's great! I'm happy for you. I think me and you are the only ones rocking these on a 5th gen in this forum. I drive over so many bad rutted gravel roads weekly for work and have not popped a tire once. Had some co-workers that have but these things sure are durable.

Did my first hill climb a couple months ago with a buddy of mine helping me out. We were in Montana near the Badlands. They didn't slip once! It's much steeper than appears in the pic but yeah they sure have some bite.

And I figured out why no one carries any "useful" tires for the Limited - because 20" wheels suck for anything other than cruising to the grocery story!



Looks like I may be looking for new wheels, too. If anyone wants to swap for some 20" OEM wheels with less than 7K on 'em, I'm all ears...



I'm not a tire expert by any stretch of the imagination, anyway. Probably should have bought a TE or SR5, but the wife wanted to have her butt warm, leather, her own temp controls, the kind of Nav she liked, etc. - i.e. too many add-ons that made buying anything but the limited impractical. Women: can't live with 'em, can't kill 'em...

Have silent armors on my 20s and they work well. 275/55 r20. They are discontinuing them so will probably go nokian Rotiiva next or hankook dynapro atms.

I don't know if you can. I bought a second set when I got my 4th Gen. This was back in June or July. The tire shop here in MN was able to track down 4 of them in the right size at another shop in North Dakota (but he could only get 4, so I have some oddball as a spare).

Nokian has them listed on their website as "discontinued." I saw a set on Ebay that were for 16' rims, but those sold pretty quickly.

I'm not sure why Nokian discontinued them and didn't replace them with a similar type of tire option, but I'm sure that's some kind of profit-driven decision.
