New Tires!!

Well, I stopped in and got my Kelly Safari TSR's (made by Goodyear) on today and love them so far. They have nice treads and aren't loud at all! Really, with the radio at normal volume (I don't listen to it that high most of the time) you can't hear the tires. When you drive over concrete with the grantreks and you hear the tire whistle, that's about what it sounds like, only quieter.

According to the SoundMeter App for the Droid:
Dunlop Grantrek's:
64db at 50
70db at 65
74db at 70 and up

TSR's:
64db at 35-45
70db at 55
80db at 70 and up

It's nothing you hear over the radio. They're just about the same noise as the BFG AT's are... an $40/tire cheaper. Got mine from Tirebuyer. I got the 6 ply as the off-roading I do is in the back yard pulling the trailer out, so I got the 6-ply and the white letters. All the 10ply's have black walls. I haven't seen a drop in mileage so far, but I'll give an update on that when I drive on them for a while. They are only 44Lbs/tire according to FedEx labels.

FYI: no rubbing in a 265/70 17 with the 2" spacer up front.

Yeah those look pretty nice, to me they look a lot like duratracs as far as tread and sidewall. How about some better pics of the whole 4runner?

Man those look REALLY good! How much did you end up paying for them?? I am still deciding on those or a couple of other tires. I need to make my mind up!!!

They were $711 shipped from tirebuyer. You do pay the install cost online as well (ended up bring $3 cheaper than they charge at the store)

Is that price for a set of 4 or 5? Did you fit this tire in 265/70/17 into the spare well successfully without trouble?

I have a 2" leveling kit up front, but no rubbing whatsoever. That was for 4. $140/tire + shipping. It ended up about $170/tire shipped (much better than the $220 for the Duratracs or BFG AT's)

I just thought I'd give an update after 2000 miles. I see no sign of tire wear (didn't really expect to) and the noise is still extremely low to none. I'm impressed, even my wife didn't notice the tire noise! No signs of rubbing even going over big bumps. I drive highway/city mixed driving and they muffle bumps well, corner well, and it's REALLY hard to get them to hydroplane. I've hit a few 2" deep puddles and can't get them to come unseated from the road yet. THere's still really no road noise. On the highway I only really hear the wind noise and not much from the tread.

My brother has Cooper STT's on his runner and said he's moving to these next time after driving it.

I love those tires! Have you taken them off road yet?? I went with the Nitto Terra Grapplers because they were a tad cheaper and love them. They look even more aggressive in person. You made a great choice in tires!

On a different note (really donot mean to hijack the thread), I am ordering Steelcraft bull bar and wanted to know if 6" lights fit in the bull bar. I know you went with smaller. Thanks

I had to measure the opening and I think I had 6.75" between the upper and lower bar> I looked at light specs and some sites have measurements between the top of the light and the mounting plate on the bottom. i can re-measure and PM you. I know it'll be tight.

PS. If you can mount the lights before you mount the bar it may help. You have to pull the skid plate off to mount them without a swivel socket.

tirebuyer.com has it 808 shipped before 144 install cost which is about 25 miles from my place. If I wanna go cheaper on install, I will have to drive 55 miles to get it at 84 for install. That comes to 892 final. BFG T/A KO is 972 'out the door' with life time rotations etc. (Not intending to compare the tires...just the RO$ (Return ON $$)

Any further info on the lights for bull bar would be helpfull. I am thinking of going with Stainless Bull bar with similar lights. I may in future go with powder coated black wheels, in that case I guess I will powder coat bull bar too.

Those tires are awesome. If they make a 6 ply in 285/70/17 that will be my next tire when my Mastercraft Courser AT2's wear out. If yours are 44lbs, they are 10 or so lbs lighter than my 265/70/17's in the different tire. I would LOVE to have a lighter tire that was also more aggressive and yet fairly quiet on the road.
