Hi all,
Great site. I have been researching here for some time. Great information on Runner..I know Toyota.. have Tundra XSP, Highlander Hybrid, Celica convertible. Have owned many more..
Was looking for a 4 Runner for one of my sons to drive in college. Found a Green/Silver trim 2002 SR5. 199K but I think good service history. Bought at average book with mile deduct...
Good:
1. New Toyota windshield
2. Very straight body, all seams measured out even, no accidents reported, except replace a rear bumper in 2007 for $788
3. Dealer inspected before I bought it and was impressed with condition
4. Some may laugh but when I changed diff fluid it smelled like Redline synthetic. I installed Amsoil 75w-90.
5. Had Timing belt, water pump, cam seals, valve cover seals and another associated seal put in 66K ago.
Bad:
1. Front tires had 5 bubbles on them..I had to apologize to mechanic who test drove it at 80 mph..I also drove it on freeway..so budget blowing 255-65/16 Michelin M&S's
2. Carpet looked like two mud puddles had just mated on them with cola and gum on the side.
3. Clear coat on hood and roof cloudy. 4 hours to buff hood but ran out of time on roof..hope clear coat does not crack/peel..front of roof looks bad..
4. Replaced all three drive belts...
5. Has a leaky oil pan gasket
6. 16 inch Alloy wheels need polish..
I am looking forward to spending more time on this site for info on reconditioning the new to us 4 Runner.
I would love to take this to my favorite mountain bike trail and camping spot...maybe son will leave it at home long enough..
