New (to me) 3rd Gen

I'm a proud owner of a 2011 5th gen. The whole family loves it so much, I just sold my daughter's car and bought her this 2000 Limited 3rd gen 4x4. Haven't picked it up yet but we're excited. We're hoping we've found one that has a lot of life left in it. Previous owner already put some time and effort into it. 125k miles and only very very minor cosmetic blemishes here and there. Everything seems to work okay and no significant rust anywhere.

Here is what has been done already:

New OEM Rotors
New OEM recommended Pads
New Axle Seals on Both Axles
Serviced the Axles and Both Differentials
Upgraded to Heavy Duty Shocks
Timing Belt was Replaced as well as the Water Pump
New valve cover gaskets and new spark plugs
New BF GoodRich All Terrain K/O tires that Measure 7/32nds as of last inspection

I'm hoping it's a nice find and it appears to be. They seller seems sad to see it go and commented that he was afraid he may never find another one like it if he ever wants one again.

Does anyone know if the 2000 Ltd. was subject to anything related to the LBJ issues as far as recalls? I'm still going to check them out and replace if necessary.

Register at the Toyota owners website and enter in your VINs. It will tell you every time the truck was at the dealer and why, also you can check recalls and some other stuff.

Just FYI, that is only about 50% tread. Congrats on the new truck! What was the seller asking for it?

Yep, I know it's only about half tread but that's better than needing tires right away. I'd rather have some useable tread on some decent tires and be able to pick out the tires I want when it needs them, than for it to have had a brand new set of rubber that was obviously off of a bargain rack somewhere. Many of the t4r's I looked at had just that - some OWL tires that I never heard of.

Okay, I did that and there is some service history there, including a few reported CEL codes, all within a couple thousand miles range, a few years ago. I can't pull up the detail for some reason though.

There were various recalls for the 3rd gens, but not for all. Depends on your VIN. If it came back clear, you're good to go. Just make sure to keep up on the small things like checking the LBJ's every once and a while and things like that.

Great looking ride BTW. Good safe car for your daughter. You don't have to worry much about her getting stranded on the side of the road with it broken down although you might get a call that she's stuck in a big mud puddle...

That's a clean 3rd Gen, good find. I love these things, my wife thinks I'm crazy for driving an "old truck" with "high miles" on it but I don't think you can beat them. Case in point, she has an '06 Pathfinder that is nothing but problems.

I think you'll find the 3rd Gen to be mostly DIY friendly. Some tight fits here and there but they're relatively simple vehicles IMO. Good luck with it.

I have a friend that has a 3rd gen and bequeathed it to his daughter when she turned 16. He missed it so much, he went out and bought himself another one and wouldn't drive anything else. I have other friends that drive 3rd gens and when I asked them if they'd sell to me, they said no way. And, to see so many still on the road relative to what I found for sale, it speaks volumes. I wouldn't mind having one myself if I wasn't happy with my paid for pickup. Plus I get to drive the 3rd gen and 5th gen when I want to.

Speaking of my pickup and DIY, nothing can be any tighter fit than me trying to change the 16 spark plugs my hemi uses. If I can do that, I can probably do straightforward maint. on anything.
