Hello T4R folks,
I just bought a 1999 T4R 4x4 Limited 160k 6 cylinder automatic and I just found this wonderful website! Thank you all for being a part of this wonderful resource! To start off with I have a few questions about some issues my "new" 4 Runner has. I have searched the forums and found a few threads about the issues but not as in depth as I would like...I probably just missed them since I'm new here and I am still learning the way this forum works. Maybe you guys can help point me in the right direction so that I can get my issues solved.
Issue #1: Cruise control doesn't work. When driving at highway speeds I turn it on and the cruise indicator on the gauge cluster lights up but no cruise. All fuses are intact, the horn works and there is no airbag warning light on so maybe I can rule out the "clock spring"...any thoughts?
Issue #2: the fog lights do not work. i have tested the switch on the steering column and the relay and fuse and they all check out...it may just be the lights themselves...is there a way to check them as well? Would it be safe to run a jumper wire to the battery to see if they are functional?
Issue #3: there is an engine sound that sounds to me like valve noise. It does not seem to go away with RPM increase but it is less noticeable probably due to louder engine noise. I have read on the forums that the fuel injection system on T4Rs is noisy...how would I go about ruling one or the other out without taking my engine apart? if it is the fuel injection system is the noise something I should worry about? If it is the valves should I adjust them (I say that because I have read that some folks don't) and if so where is a good source for shims?
Also, my truck is missing all of its rear badges--who knows why--does anyone have any '99 era badges (T4R, 4x4, Limited) they would be willing to part with?
If any of you have any ideas on where I could find info on how to fix my issues I would greatly appreciate it.
