New Trail

Very sweet 4runner. The silver trail is the best looking 5th gen out, imo. Interior pics as well? Congrats on the purchase!

Hey! You are on IH8MUD as well. I recognized the name and recall pictures of your trailer behind the CX-9. I have an M101 build going over there under the same SN.

Yea man....another one of my hang outs! Love that trailer and T4R of yours!!

Thanks for the support guys...man I love this truck!

First impressions are extremely favorable. Only thing that really burned my a$$ was a lack of mats, and no locking gas cap.....I mean c'mon Toyota...you're kidding!

Ride is solid and it has all the creature comforts. Controls are well thought out, and all guages are visible. No major upgrades planned until I get some minor trail time in. Pull out slide is awesome..used it like 3 times already

First mods will be:

Remote start

Tint front windows to match rears

Make a set of LED back up lights with remote switch

Better interior/ rear cargo area LED lighting

Add second battery under hood, requires some minor relocation

LED turn signal mod (amber) on the mirrors

It's my daily driver so there's no plan wheel/suspension changes on the horizon till it's paid off. Don't want to kill the mileage......yet:driving:

Don't forget...get better tires at least!! :D

Congrats - great looking truck - silver is the color for me !!! After seeing this, I am really tempted !!!

Agree with you re the "no locking gas cap". I live and regularly park in the metro area. Anyone knows whether there are aftermarket locking gas caps that will fit easily ?

No worries, all models have an anti-siphon system in the neck of fuel receptacle.

That's good to hear - at least one of my concerns has gone away.

I think I would still sleep better if I can get an aftermarket locking cap to prevent vandals from say putting sugar/sand down my tank !

I must sound a bit paranoid - but some of us do have to park in pretty rough neighbourhood... LOL ...

Not at all...I still can't believe there's not an inside latch:wow2:

I got contacted by Toyota for feed back on the TE today..told them I need just a bit more time, they most interested in what I thought was missing or wrong and didn't really ask what I liked....lol

I know my Mazda CX9 was a 08-1/2 although there's no official Mazda version out there.

I tried putting it in 4L and tearin' up the yard being she went to work...:frog:

Titanpat57, if i may be so bold, please do us all a proper and mention that the Trail Edition should have the Torsen center diff (just like the '09 Trail Edition—and all trim levels of the 4th Gen!) and that for a $40k+ loaded Trail, they should include the heated leather seats.:biggrin2:

it'd be great to nudge Toyota about an available 4.6L V8, too…*:hungry:

oh, and let me say CONGRATS!
it really looks awesome. i'd just hate to have to give up my torsen and v8 for one… painful decision.

LOL...I'd love to Mr. SC if I had a clue to what the hell I was talking about..I think I get the Torsen diff....but the V8, well I'm not so sure.

My last V8, 5.7, was a Nissan Titan, and it was a great truck for a daily driver (4W,CC,LE) and she liked gas. So when it went to 5$ a/gal I panicked and got the Mazda..bad, bad move. I'm thinking that from a torque standard, I can't believe this isn't more than ample..but I'm sure as hell aint gonna be the new kid on the block telling the hardend vets what is or isn't about the truck(s) there use to driving.

I put about 300 miles on since last Sat. and don't find any power issues in the TE, but maybe there's a more of a test on the trail itself...but I'll continue to report good, bad, or in between.

Thanks for positives guys.

Save your money on a locking gas cap and just sleep in the truck (the rear seats recline - somewhat)!! If you hear the gas lid open, just come out swinging!!!!

1st mod

Couldn't find a phone holder I wanted so I made it from one I had

Took the liner out of the cup holder and poured "Rocktite" in it and set the holder into the Rocktite...waited about and hour and she's a done deal.

Nice and solid..weighs about a pound, and fits perfect:thumb3:

I'll order a new one when I get a chance just to have a backup

Was digging around in the rear....

Went out this morning to wire in the trailer harness and WAA-LAA!!...nice surprise when I dove under her....

It was obviously designed by someone who has never tried to couple a trailer in a thunderstorm....lol

I'm glad its there (both 7 way and 4 way) but couldn't they have put it somewhere a bit more accessible besides laying on your back or using a mirror??

Right next to the lighting connection is a nice tow hook..

So I looked on the other side and where the exhaust comes out the rear are two nice holes where a tow hook could go the passenger side...why the hell didn't they port the exhaust out the side and throw another hook in....I mean it is the TE right?

And while I'm on a tear...

Seems to me the fuel pump should tucked up inside a bit more.....a rogue branch could rip this thing apart:toilet:

Awesome truck, I think I am ordering a Silver Trail this coming week. Did you get KDSS?

Also REALLY awesome trailer build on Mud! Very cool.

It's got way more than enough torque for any trail. Should be a bad boy out there. Have fun.

Congrats, and thanks for the pics and thread.

TY BlairB...I checked out your build also..very impressive. Ya spend all that money grtting it just the way you want it and now you want a new one.....lol....that's the speech I get for the up and coming trailer build...I guess it's a guy thing:thumb3:

I didn't get the KDSS, this whole off road scene is a bit new, but from what I read, and amount of off roading you do it may be a worthwhile option.

:thanks:JB also!

Went and picked a ball and reciever tube...got the 3" drop think I could've got away with none(once the weight,i.e.cooler, water jugs, hits the front rack)

also got a little twisted for the first time and liked the angle :bat:
