New TRD Pro - Need mild lift options

PS: I do not believe the TRD Bilstein shocks that are installed on the TRD Pro have the adjustment setup that the standard 5100's have. I believe they are already designed to accept more lift and wheel travel and the remote reservoirs allow them to be worked harder, but I don't think they are designed for varied height adjustment ala the 4 notch setup of our current 5100's. Of course I could be wrong.
This had already been covered.

So what, you still paid a premium for that suspension. People buy cars for various reasons, and saying you leave is stock because the dude already bought it and wants some more height makes no sense. Once you own it, you should mod it however you want, it happens with almost every model of offroad/trail team tacoma/fj that you pay a premium for. It is what it is. Some people want to pay for the hype of a TRD Pro, if every one of them kept them stock that would be awfully boring. If the dude isn't happy with the way his truck is, he should mod it. The majority of the 4runners on this forum are mall crawlers that could have been just fine on stock suspension, plenty of trail editions get sold because they like the look better than the SR5. People shouldn't be coming into a thread and telling a guy who bought a TRD Pro what he's doing is wrong and a waste of money

The hype of the TRDP was the suspension and the first thing you do is throw out the suspension...okay...

If you didn't notice the OP created a thread asking for our opinions and advice. That's exactly what we're doing and it seems like he came to the right conclusion to leave it stock for now and upgrade as needed. I'm not sure why you have problems with us giving our opinions when the OP asked for it in the first place...

Wow, tough crowd. I'm not trying to start a flame war, but until one of the new owners actually crawls under their TRD Pro to look at the shocks we really don't know do we? I didn't see any confirmation in this thread.

This is all I could glean from any of the press releases or searching for those shocks. It has NO reference to height adjustability. Looking at the picture in Cplturner's sig and looking at my 1.75" adjustment I would say the 1.5" referenced is pretty accurate. And I can use the bold button too! :fencing:

Sorry about the hijack OP.

However, the '15 Toyota Tacoma TRD and 2015 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro are set up a little different, as they are only equipped with TRD Bilstein 60mm shocks with 18mm shafts up front and a set of TRD Bilstein 46mm remote-reservoir shocks in the rear. The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro also cycles an extra 1 inch of wheel travel up front and an extra 1.5 inches out back. The 4Runner TRD Pro cycles 1 inch extra wheel travel up front and an extra 1.25 inches in the rear. You can bet these shocks aren’t going to fade during hard charging runs through mildly whooped-out desert two-tracks. The Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro is also lifted 2 inches taller up front, while the 2015 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro sits 1.5 inches taller up front.

Lol!

Yet Crackiswacked is more than happy to jump in and explain your truck looks like an old fad when your NOT asking for an opinion!

Better check the forecast, see which way his sail is blowing tomorrow!

Sorry CPL, not trying to hijack the thread, there's been some good info here, however Crack's comment defined hypocrisy!

Oh how sad, still have sand in your vag because no one liked your fake carbon fiber stickers?

I'll disagree on the hype, most people seem obsessed with the looks, color, bumpers, and wheels, and less with the actual suspension "improvement". I simply don't see it being anything special, and my point was that its not worth saving if you want to lift. There is absolutely nothing about it that makes is special enough to try to preserve, even if you spent money on it. People can mod their vehicles however they like, and others can like the look or not, but to say you should leave a vehicle stock on an enthusiast forum? Its certainly not the end all of suspensions, and IMO overhyped needlessly.

The TRDPRO suspension is not adjustable according to JM4Runner who actually works on them......post 1530.... http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/160015-4runner-trd-pro-51.html#post1816884

And yes,of course if it were me,I would take off the stock Bilstein suspension, save it for later ,like I do with all my parts ,and put better adjustable lifted suspension on.TRDPRO or not! It's just suspension and can be taken off and on if I was worried about hurting the resale value of it.

That's not my opinion but a fact of what I would do.
I have some new Billy 5100's on my rear right now while I rebuild my Icon Piggyback's and to me there's no comparison after 2 weeks of riding on them and I like mine lifted.

My 5 year extended warranty runs out next month,11/30 and going to take it in to see if they'll warranty the front transfer case/driveshaft seal leaking/seeping before then.I might order a Inferno Red TRDPro while I'm there if they will deal with my preposterous unmitigated terms ,which they probably won't. My rebuilt Icons will go on it if they do!:lmao:

Huh, that seems to directly contradict all the photos that have been posted so far, unless there isn't a third notch, but they are definitely adjustable http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/160015-4runner-trd-pro-34.html#post1808060

I'm just going by what the guy that works for Toyota,is a mechanic and has seen them first hand has written......
Maybe he is wrong but he seems ligit and he wrote after being asked

" The suspension that comes for the TRDP is NOT adjustable. It does appear that way because the driver and passenger side are set on two different notches, but they do not adjust higher. For those seeking adjustability in a factory TRD suspension, The Tacoma Baja suspension is the factory suspension that has this. It has 3 settings which should allow for you to adjust. Rumored to have been similar to what was used for the preproduction TRDP, but post production received non adjustable medium setting. IDK where you can get a similar factoryish suspension for the 4R other than the FJ Trail Team Last Edition, which is also not adjustable.'

This is just conjecture,as I haven't actually tried it but if the OP wants just a little more lift from the stock TRD ,like 1/2" then Toytec 1/4"(1/4"spacer =1/2" lift in front) spacers in front and 1 or stacking 2 of the yellow 10mm OME spacers in the rears wouldn't affect the suspension feel or travel hardly at all IMO. Any more then that from spacers and your probably over reaching the design of the TRD suspensions travel.

Yea, its all conjecture, youre right. The preproduction models had 3 notches so I assumed they were the same and set in the middle. Surprised they would change that though

I'd sell that TRD Pro suspension at a premium and use that to offset the cost of a higher dollar suspension...

I am sure someone with more money than brains would pay a pretty penny for it. Especially prior to the market being saturated with them.

Thank you. I certainly wasn't going to go through 111 pages of stuff to find out. I figured it would be easier for Cplturner to go look under his. :hail:
I might actually be wrong. The info provided above seems to imply that they maybe don't have the 3rd notch that the preproduction models actually have.

I may have to eat my words on it, but I was in fact originally told that they are not adjustable. However, the digging and indecision started making me probe a bit more. I don't typically like to look over the shoulders of people at work, but I did in this case. The picture shows the front Driver(right) and Passenger(left) suspension. Indeed they do seem adjustable. Saker and I shared a few PM's about it, and how the factory preset it for driver side lean maybe. Unfortunately until now I wasn't able to get a first hand look at the suspension alone. Before my information came from one of the supervisors, that it was not adjustable, because it is simply delivered put together. I thought someone here had plans to take it to a shop and make the adjustments.... Based on what I see, I would imagine each side could go up one more notch. Unfortunately we can't take it apart here to find out for sure.

Good morning guys and thanks for all of the feedback and spirited debate. Sorry I haven't been able to get time to do a closer inspection on my front shocks to see if they are adjustable, but it looks like that question has already been answered.

Still planning on keeping mine untouched for the time being.

Wifey and I are going up to Brown Mountain OHV trail system this weekend to do some mild wheeling (typical easy stuff that we would expect to encounter on our little adventures) and get a sense of how this thing will do with a moderate amount of cargo.....I will report back with pics.

I went to Brown Mtn about a month ago. I would have felt much more comfortable with a lift but my skids took care of everything. With a lift and 33s any 4runner could walk Brown Mtn. Still a ton of fun!!

Hey st8rocks...Tnx for the trail report! Would you say Brown Mt. (Trail 1) would be passable without sliders, by a reasonably competent driver (read military off-road experience)? I'm not incredibly keen on the idea of wheeling without them, but from the vids I have seen, it looks like trail 1 is not much more than a gravel road with some mild ruts and a few small rocks.

Title says it all....Got the fantastic suspension setup and would like to not drop the coin on another full blown kit.

Wifey and I intend to use the vehicle for micro adventure/overlanding, and believe that we could probably benefit from an additional inch or two of ground clearance. I have not yet factored in the weight of a roof rack, sliders and other additions to come yet, so I haven't started to study spring rates.

So the big question I have is, would a spacer lift fit the bill here? I realize a lot of spacer lifts are for leveling vehicles, and I don't need to level...The stance is already perfect. I would like to lift the front and rear proportionally.

Any thoughts from the group?

Investigate whether or not your front bilsteins can be adjusted up another notch. There is reason to believe, from other threads on this forum and a post above, that this may be possible. If so, I'd do that, and then add a small 1" rear spacer.

I recall reading that the rear stock TRD shocks can travel/droop a bit farther than the stock setup as is.
