Re: Need a little help with my TrueFlow.

Hey folks. I finally got my TrueFlow filter yesterday that had been on backorder for a while and I could not get it installed. I know it sounds stupid but I tried everything that I could and I could not get it to go down far enough for the lid to close. I tried forcing it, prying it in, everything. The filter is just barely not fitting uinder the lip below the lid that the filter should fit under. I had to put my K&N filter back in and was a little disappointed in the whole ordeal. I am not a complete noob at this stuff as I have had a stock filter, K&N FIPK, and currently a K&N filter. But I have never had this problem before.

Does anyone have any advice or hints? I am ready to start using my nice new filter. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's been a few months since I did mine but from what I can remember it took me Three seperate attempts. As I can recall on the last attempt I made sure the bottom of the filter was tipped to the fire wall on the truck. Slide the filter with that angle until you feel it contact the back of the filter box and slide all the way down keeping the bottom edge in contact with the filter box until you have reached the bottom. Make sure both Lower Left and right corners are as far down as they can go. Push the rest of the filter straight back so the entire frame now is in contact with the back of the box. Hold it there while closing lid until you can't hold it there anymore. Near as I can remember your lid should still be open 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. If you did a good enough job holding the filter back as you were closing the lid you should be able to push the lid down the rest of the way. Take your thumb and snap the clips to the lock position. When you go to close the lid in this way it will seem a bit unatural. It's cool, as long as the lid closes and locks you should be good to go. It does take a bit of force, just don't use excessive force.

Just purchased the True Flow today. After reading, and reading, and more reading to compare the many choices.....I opted for this. I just dont understand the K & N filters allowing such large holes in their filter.

Will post my thoughts after I get it in and drive a few tanks.

Those of you who have the True Flow, is it neccasary to reset the ECU or not?

I did not reset. Just give it time and you'll notice improvement. THe first thing youll like notice is she "whoosh" sound at slow accelerations.

I did not...others here have. I installed late one night in the driveway and when done moved the truck 15 ft inside the garage and didn't touch it until the next morning. It was cold that next morning when I drove it but as soon as it came up to temperature I could notice an improvement. It got even better the next day. I should add that I drive like there is an eggshell under the pedal since gas has gone up. Others who drive harder may not notice the improvement that I have. Either way I think you will love the filter. Good luck and do let us know how you like it.

It is a very tight fit but well made. I also was worried about the fit but You do have to Pressure it in and get one side latched and then press down on the otherside of the box to lock it down. You could always take a dremel and shave some of the plastic off but once you get it in it will be fine. As you can see it is made much better than the stock Yota Filter and alot of the other brands onthe market.

Well, finally arrived and installed...

Be sure to let us know how you like it. Best part is your in Nevada where it's probably warm. In my experience you don't really notice much when it's cold. To many other factors are effecting performance. When it warms up to around 45 or above the old feeling is back again and I remember why I love this filter so much.

I was also curious about the "recharge kit"...about $18? Jason B says at least 25,000 until that is needed, given normal conditions.

Yea, on average, aproc 25k under normal conditions. The recharge kit is around $13 I think. It's not listed on the website though.

HeHe...I'll still trade ya if you want...15 here as I type this and going to -5 tomorrow night.

As far as the cleaning, there should have been instructions for the cleaning procedure that came with your filter. Sounds simple enough as long as you have the TrueFlow kit which is cheap IMO. 25K?...If Jason says let it go 25K then I'm sure you would be fine for a street truck. I'm a bit more anal and will probably pull it at 10K for a look.

Sounds like from what I have read a very simple procedure. Apply the cleaner and rinse with water...Let dry completely and then apply the sticky stuff. Doesn't get much more simple than that.

For those that will ask, this is very different than say your average oil treated gauze filter. This filter is not oily at all. The filter has a very "Sticky Foam" surface front.

I've gone through a few tanks of gas with the new filter. I can honestly say I have seen a significant gain in miles per gallon. On average before the filter, I would get 250 miles with the needle on E. I am getting 250 miles now (same driving habits) before the gas light comes on. I am guessing 2 miles per gallon gained!

Any other TRUE FLOW users experience this?

I'll have to go with the increase of about 2 mph. I have a two-wheel drive '02 SR5 and the best I was getting was a disappointing 18, around town. Now I can count on 20 or a bit better.

I recently drove to Missouri but the weather/wind was so bad, I went back to 18 on the highway! Most of you will remember the 30 to 35 mph winds the country had on Valentines day! I drove over 700 miles with it trying to blow me backward the whole trip.
The trip home was a bit better and I squeezed out up to 22 1/2.

I'm satisfied.

Have to agree with that. Not sure about the gas mileage since I didn't keep track before the install. This filter made me want to keep track and have been doing that since Nov. 2005.

It's a Great filter IMO...and I have read some really great reviews from some of the folks that offroad.

I can back up THUNDR CLOUD on this one...the True Flow is by far the best filter money can buy for our 3rd gens.

Perfect fit, lasts up to 30k or so depending on your driving habits and its as simple as cleaning and re-oiling.

I guarantee you will notice a difference after several hunder miles, amazing! I was skeptical, I'll admit...the second I installed it and saw how well it fit I thought to myself, maybe this IS the real deal...200 miles later, best purchase I've made in quite some time.

ive had mine for a few months and its great the power my truck has is awesome stomp on it from 55 in 4th and it pulls like crazy i have never had a chance to drive anything with more power so i wouldint no what it feels like
