New vehicle thoughts

Okay, sitting around chatting with my buddy earlier about our trucks. He has a 2004 Taco, me, 1997 4Runner. I have been saying for a while, I want to get a 2002 4WD this coming summer. And build it up. But, I was scanning through the forums, and had a freaking braingasm! What about getting a standard cab Taco, and converting it to a removable top, 2 door, unibody, what Toyota should have done with newer 4Runners? I kinda dig the newer trucks, with the angles and all, but the new 4Runner is way to big for my likes, and not really into the FJ, and the thought of a considerably less milage truck, is tempting. I mean, check out the classic 4Runners and the Trekker, those are so awesome, and having a removable top, roll bars, bikini top, Toyota quality, would so freaking cool!
Has anyone seen anything like this? Have any thoughts? If I am gonna throw money in a hole called a truck, it has to be a Yota.

So you want to eliminate the frame? The drivetrain and body mount to the frame. Without it, you'll just have a pile of parts in need of a frame. :nono:

Okay, I think I mis-wrote that, what i meant to say, was, instead of having a cab separate from the bed, upon opening the rear of the cab and cutting the top out and placing a camper shell with cab roof, joining the bed to the cab to eliminate the lines, so it flows smoothly from lower cab to bed.

Sorry, I mis-used the word unibody earlier. Hope I made more sense this time?

Makes sense to me...you're building a 1980s 4runner out of 2000-era parts. I like it!

Exactly! Thanking, do the dual slider windows in the cab, roll bar, maybe some FJ style jumper seats in the back, rhino line the entire floor, Wet Okale seats so the whole thing can be sprayed out? Maybe red, and do the retro orange and yellow stripes on the sides? Spare tire out back, and the various modern items we all drool over.
