New Wheels & Tires vs TPMS Sensors

I switched tires first, then switched out rims. Discount told me I had to install sensors (They'd mount the tires on the rims). Since I had bought both the tires and the rims there with a couple of weeks, he gave me the new sensors (installed) for $40 each. Sold the old tires & rims for $350.

Just like almost everyone here I switched out the 21 orp wheels with trd pro wheels and the tire place (friend of a friend shop) broke one sensor. I bought a new sensor from Toyota and just when into the change new wheel in the vehicle setting menu and it picked up the new sensor and displayed the pressure after 15mins of driving. Hope that helps

Just wanted to post back here to update.

Had my new tires installed on new wheels and they swapped the TPMS sensors from the OEM wheels to the new. No extra charge or issues. I asked and they did. No biggie.

For those following along at home, I went with the boring upgrade to TRD Pro wheels (black) with Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws in OEM size-E load rated. New tire pressure according to the tire pressure calculator for me was 44 psi.

Your 2021 can deal with another set of TPMS sensors or reuse the existing ones. I'd suggest reading the owners manual. It can all be programed from the dash.

I want to get a second set of rims with TPMS sensors with snow tires.

When I swap wheels on my 2014 SR5, will the different TPMS sensors be automatically recognized or will they have to be programmed?

You can do what I did and purchase a Autel 501 programmer and four Autel MX sensors and then use programmer to copy the transmitter codes from your Factory Toyota sensors and then program the same codes into your new Autel MX sensors before installing in wheel. I can now switch between factory and aftermarket wheel and tire sets and vehicle sees whatever set I am running.

If you store your Non winter tires in the Garage with the same programed sensor code as your winter tires then park the truck in that same garage which set gets read by the computer?
What would be a safe distance from the 4runner to store these tires.
If so Have you seen any issues ?
