I'm in favor of the bill. Personally, I think they belong on a Land Rover out in the jungle.

Brush Guard Dangers?
Three weeks ago I was t-boned in the drivers side by a Ford Explorer doing 50 mph while I was crossing a 4-lane. My side airbag deployed and probably saved my life. My vehicle (not a 4R) was totaled.
I don't see how a grille or brush guard on the explorer would have made the impact any worse than it was.
Looks like the legislators have too much idle time on their hands.

yeah what do you even own a car for if you live in NYC? i couldnt deal with the traffic there, WAY TOO MANY CABS!!!! anyways, good to hear your okay, those accidents where they hit your door are always nasty. but thats a really stupid law, i mean, what if you already have one?

i had the vehicle before my 4runner hit by a deer crossing the road from well preserved woods in my neighbourhood. the deer didn't take out my hood, but the grille and head lights were gone, bumper got crack. the repair cost paid by insurance is twice more than a grille guard you have to pay for. how many drivers died at steering wheel when their vehicles hit (or were hit) by deers.
i reported to cops over phone at scene. i was told that i do not have to wait for cops since there will be no officer sent.
all depend on where you live, meaning i feel as long as i live here, i would feel safe and have confidence to drive safely when i have a grille guard.

hahahaha, i would like to see what my "grille guard" would do in a serious collision, lets just say that i dont think whoever i hit would be walking away from it. but if thats how you feel, then why do you believe they dont belong in the city, if they dont protect you, why not have them for bling? its just like big wheels, just a style statement. perhaps bull bars should be illegal in NYC, but then again, perhaps they should make getting a license a little more difficult so we dont have all these idiots on the road... just a thought

ksneubec, im aware of that, i just dont like how he is trying to shoot down what people do to their vehicles, ive never seen anyone tell him anything negative about his truck, i dont appreciate it when he tries to tell other people his negative view on the modifications they have done.... just my opinion

What about your needs tho? Do you drive offroad? Maybe a brush guard might be something useful to protect your truck. Or maybe something to mount some decent lights on for safer driving on hwys or offroad trails at night.

Honestly, a standard grill guard doesn't do anything but keep the run away shopping cart or a basketball from damaging the front of your rig. Also a good place to put some extra lights on it.

No brush guard is intended to protect your vehicle from impact. They can protect from a minor bump, like someone backing into a parking space and bumping your front end. The brackets are designed to just support the guard and will help absorb the impact and distribute the impact across the front end. I don't see the brush guard having any effect on the air bag deployment. Now an ARB bumper will have to be integrated into the air bag system or it will definitely affect deployment and cause some serious damage.
The brush guard has several purposes; helps keep brush marks off the vehicle on the trails, helps deflect road debris from hitting headlights, helps keep minor parking bumps and taps from damaging the bumper, makes a great place to mount auxiliary driving lights, and spreads large impacts across the front end.
