We need to define 2 words from the 2nd Ammendment. One being "regulated", and the other being "Militia".

"Regulated" in the Colonial Period would not be the same as what we think of today. When we think of regulation today, we think of Government intervention. "Regulated" during that period: To adjust to some standard or requirement as for amount, degree, etc;To adjust so as to ensure accuracy of operation;To put in good order.

A well regulated Militia didn't mean it was restrained, it meant it was in good working order, with the equipment needed to provide protection for this nation.

Read the Journals of the Continental Congress 1774-1789 for many referenced of "Regulated".

That gets us on to that oh so nasty and taboo word, "Militia"

According to Title 10 Subtitle A Part I Chapter 13 of US Code

The "Militia" is :

(a)The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.

(b)The classes of the militia are—
(1)the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and

(2)the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

That means the vast majority of members on this board are Milita whether they know it or not.

Why shouldn't I as a law abiding citizen be able to purchase and own any firearm my heart desires?

This is dead on. Too many on both sides of the gun control debate think that the argument is about collecting or hunting or self defense or target shooting, when all of that is of secondary or tertiary importance. We have the right to keep and bear arms because it is necessary to the security of a free State. Let that sink in, everybody - the right to keep and bear arms isn't just a privilege, and it isn't just a right. It's a responsibility. You don't need a 30 round mag to hunt deer or defend your house, you need a 30 round mag to keep the government scared of you. And they are scared of you, which is why they're trying to disarm you.

Don't let them do it. This is only the Land of the Free until we stop ensuring our own freedoms.

Against the largest, most well armed group the world has known, I think you are mistaken who has the power.

I know war. It's not fun, nor is it pretty. It's not glamorous. It doesn't make you proud or patriotic. You usually don't even know why you are where you are or what your objective is. It's simply survival. Get him before he gets you.

I won't go looking for it, but if it finds me I'll be ready to rain brass. No bullshit.

Fantasize? Hell no! I don't plan on getting in a wreck when I drive either, but I still wear my seatbelt when I leave the farm.

That's what the queen of England thought before the revolutionary war.

There aren't a lot of people looking for war. Those that are have no clue what it's like to be in a fight. The last thing I would want is a war with our government. I sincerely hope that if the mass majority of civilians wanted something bad enough to raise arms over it, there wouldn't be anyone supporting the government to give anyone a war. Let's not forget that those of us in the military are normal people too. We too have opinions and views on the government. I can promise you that if our constitutional rights are violated that I will never raise a weapon to a civilian who is rightfully defending his rights. I think that the mass majority of those in uniform or other government agencies would be on the side of the people. Most armed services throughout the nation have their jobs because they decided to make their profession to better this country and not rob everyone of their rights.

You must not be familiar with military history. An insurgency of guerrillas armed with rifles and explosives is a highly effective tactic against any conventional army.

I mean, it's just a few small Vietnamese guys in pajamas armed with SKS rifles and some anti aircraft guns. Or some cave men wearing turbans armed with AK47s and RPGs. Slam dunk victory right?

Look what Christopher Dorner did to southern CA. One man with motivation and a mediocre amount of training and readily available equipment.

2002 650. It was a great bike and was also my first. I loved the V-Twin engine and the tall skinny tires. I was able to lean further on that than I was on my gsxr 1000.
 
I have yet to meet someone in the military that I think would blindly follow orders and disregard civilian's rights. After all, isn't protecting civilian freedom what the military is meant to do?
 
Whenever I see a "no weapons" sign, "gun free zone" or other bullshit like that, I turn around and walk the other way.

Gun free zones scare the shit out of me.
