New Yorkers... Give up your guns.

Carry conceal wouldn't bother me at all if the carrier was comprehensively and regularly proven to be qualified to do so. I'm not for someone being able to carry anywhere at anytime WITHOUT being qualified. If its too many hoops to jump through then the interested party must not care enough. Do you think I'm somehow in favor of someone taking your gun? If so, how did you arrive at that?

Don't ask me about how to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. I'm not qualified to answer. Can't help you. And its not related to item #1.

After seeing what recently happened at the Short Hills mall (a very high end exclusive mall) only a few minutes from me, I'd consider carrying and would gladly follow and comply with ANY requirements with pleasure.

but criminals ARE doing this. NO laws or restrictions will EVER prevent that.

all that will happen, is the law abiding people will be hindered,

I get it. You want anyone in the general US population to be able to get and carry a gun of any kind whenever and wherever they like completely unhindered - like a criminal.

I think that's absolutely ridiculous but I'm sure I must be the only one with that opinion.

I agree with the idea, but the execution of this policy would be impossible without granting the government more power than it already has AND giving them the tools they need to, quite literally, take it all away. This cannot work without strict registration, testing and regulation...then all they need is a reason, manufactured or not, and they'll round 'em up.

No. I think LAW ENFORCEMENT should be given the tools and support they need to make us all less paranoid.

And if your friends and neighbors want to BE and ACT as law enforcement, then they should be uniquely qualified.

First off...

Sig'd! There's no atheist in the fox hole. When someone has intent to kill you and you don't have any means of defense, God is ALL you have.

Second, the main ides of having guns is for our safety, right? Yes, we want guns for hunting and sport use as well. But for this topic anyways we're concerned about keeping our guns and having less restriction because we feel that having our guns makes us safer and able help stop someone else from being hurt due to criminals.

For me this is very simple. Set aside statistics and emotions because they don't really mean a whole lot to me because as stated before, numbers can be used to work for either side. Let's think about this logically. What do laws do? They keep the sane and peaceful people in compliance to make life easier and safer for the masses. What is it that gun owners/carriers want? Protection from the criminals who can care less about the laws. We know that more gun laws don't stop criminals. So why make it harder for those of us who want to do the right thing and stay safe? It just doesn't make any sense in my mind because those who are willing to rob, rape, kill, etc aren't going to stop all of that just because of a new law that says his 16 round magazine or his 3" barrel on his pistol is illegal. Now if that same criminal knew that there was a 99% chance that his next victim was going to be armed, do you think that he would still commit that crime? Possibly. I will bet that most criminals won't take that chance. The possible victim doesn't need to be rambo with a 9mm, they just need to have a basic ability to defend themselves.

Here's another way to look at it. Take the Mississippi river and use that as a border for a gun free zone. To the east is all gun free zones and to the west are all those who carry to protect themselves. Where will the criminals go to take advantage of people? Of course they will find the easy prey and go to the east.

To me this is extremely simple. Give the advantage to those who wish to do harm to others and they WILL win.

C'mon you're leaving out the REAL reason why your criminals will go east. You surely know it, but don't want to say it. It ain't the prey.

Is there something about the Atlantic ocean that draws criminals east? If not then I'm clueless about what you're leaning towards.

what are you talking about?

newsflash, criminals do wtf ever they want. they don't follow laws, THATS what makes them criminals.

Do you or do you not support the ability for anyone in the general US population to be able to obtain and carry a gun of any kind whenever and wherever they like completely unhindered by any laws or qualifications?

Hell yes!! Natural selection will take care of a lot of people right off the bat. The rest will be able to take care of them selves and not rely on the government to
make us all less paranoid.

sure. why not? if they aren't breaking the law, they aren't hurting anything.

you have an irrational fear of things you don't understand.

you're concerned with someone carrying concealed, because they may hurt you accidentally. but, you don't seem to be worried about the criminal who may INTENTIONALLY hurt you.

your position is ridiculous.

When seconds count, LAW ENFORCEMENT is only minutes away. On the bright side, they'll be the first to count the number of murdered people that had their Constitutional Rights usurped, and were unable to defend themselves..

Provided they have been approved via the standard NICS check, yes.

Until someone is a convicted criminal, you cannot treat them as such. We are free until we do something stupid to sacrifice our Constitutional Liberties.

Had I ever lived in Washington, I might agree. Living in my environment everyday, general population carrying a weapon without first completing a comprehensive requirement is unimaginable.

In one quick glance out my midtown Manhattan window right now, I see 5-10000 people easily. There's another 50000 out there. Yes, its Rock Center and yes its Christmas time. On a typical work day, its roughly the same. People of every race, creed, color, and level of intelligence/patience/anxiety.

You want to give'em all a gun? Now THAT is ridiculous.

We want to give them the choice to protect themselves if needed. It's not like they are any more or less likely to shoot passers by than law enforcement is given your situation.

Being a responsible firearms owner you take into account 4 rules.

1 All guns are always loaded, even when they are not. Treat them as such.

2 Never point your gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.

3 Leave your finger off the trigger until you have acquired your target and are ready to fire.

4 Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

You're funny. You have 15 targets, there's another 100 directly behind them, they're ever moving/changing, they're all less than 2 ft away from your person, and they can feel your firearm in your holster every time they slam into you every 3 seconds. You'll hit an awful lot of people. And maybe one of them might be your target.

Just stop. You haven't a clue.

Just stop. You haven't a clue.

You are the one who continues to demonstrate you have no clue. I carry everyday, sometimes in crowded areas. No one around knows I am carrying a sub compact pistol in an appendix carry holster inside my waist band.

Regarding the "targets" you described, that seems like the 4 rules I posted covered that scenario. But what would I know, with my numerous hours of professional firearms training, as well as the training I received in the US Army, including shoot/no shoot scenarios, right?

But please, continue to step on your own dick, I find it amusing.

So back to the point big tough trained shooting statistics Army guy..... maybe you can pass the comprehensive requirements I suggest and carry your little gun right here in NYC without any qualms from me.

Do you think EVERYONE will be trained just like you if there are no requirements?

Given the percentage of the population that own guns, and the smaller portion of that group with concealed handgun permits your fears are unfounded. Also given the fact that permit holders have proven to not be a danger to society I don't know why you still don't want people to exercise their right to protect themselves.

We get it, you're afraid of what you don't understand.

Just moments ago..... Let's give them all a gun..... Hahahaha....
