Recently picked up an '06 SR5 V6 4runner (4x4). I've been searching this forum for weeks trying to soak in as much info as possible but I still have a couple of questions I haven't been able to find answers for...
1. My rear passenger tail light is not working. I didn't look this truck over as closely as I should have before buying (FYI - Don't buy a used car during a snow and ice storm! :tsk
. At first it was just the right turn signal that wasn't working. I figured it was the bulb? Quickly found out that wasn't the issue. The turn signals and backup lights don't have their own wires. I pulled the bulb/socket from the left side and swapped them to the right side and got the same results (bulb/socket from the right side worked fine in the left housing). I messed around with this for a while making sure it was something stupid like a fuse of the wiring. I even unbolt both housing and pluged the lft housing into the right side and it worked fine (Other then the turn signal and back up lights being reversed). A couple of days later I realized that know the whole right assembly isn't working (no lights at all).
When I was looking at it, I found that apparently the last owner had some kind of accident that apparently ripped off the original housing and it was replaced it with an aftermarket unit. To be honest, while the LED lights look cool and all, I wish this thing just had standard housings without any electronics boards because now it looks like my only option is to replace the whole housing? If so, anybody know of an online source for a true OEM assembly that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Ebay has let me down so far.
2. Speaking of OEM parts, I want to do the Satoshi grill mod but my SR5 came with the chrome grill which I dislike. I know I can plasti-dip it but that's not the look I want. What I would like to do is get an black limited grill and color match the frame of it to my body color (Nautical Blue). My question is, is the '06-'09 Limited grills interchangeable with the SR5 models?
