Newer OEM Toyota Radio in 3rd Gen

Hey gang,

I seem to remember seeing pictures of some members running the newer OEM yota radios (touch screen from a yaris / FRS etc) in 3rd gens, but after 20 minutes of searching here and google i can't find anything (maybe i was hallucinating). Anyone happen to run one or have links saved? Seems like a clean easy cheap option to update the cassette deck in mine :)

I have one from a 13 highlander had to trim the bezel, get an adapter for the antenna and clip the wire for the power antenna. The connectors are the same. Dont know if I would call it a cheaper option though. If you have questions I’d be willing to help.

I have the T1819 in my 97. I liked it so much I put one in me S Series Saturn

I've seen quite a few Scion radio's, and newer model Toyota ones installed. It all comes down to how much do you want to spend, and how much work do you want to do.

well it's just a question of time and money, and i have neither, so i'm not worried :)

sounds like i'll just go for an el cheapo non touchscreen double din from crutchfield

Without patience you will spend 150 on cables to plug the newer radio into the 4Runner harness. I bought one on Craig's list with the three adapter cables for 50 dollars. Then bought the Bluetooth cable for 58 dollars and the made in China USB cable for 5 dollars. If the radio wouldn't have came with them add 100 for the cable kit plus the cost of the radio.

LOL... Ouku, and Pumpkin are brand names, but the units I like are the double din ones running android software. Basically a smart phone in your dash. you can go to play store and download apps, they do nav, games, dvd, hot spot, wifi, rear camera, touch screen, color changing lights, anything your android phone will do and more. Super easy to set up, just need a Metra wiring harness adapter for your truck and it's pretty much plug and play. Just shop around for the ones running the latest version of android, and pick a face/button style. Stay away from the windows units. You can find them from 150.00 to 300.00 depending on what you want.

I have them in three different cars and they have all been working flawlessly for a couple years now.

For me I like theOEM look, (It's less bling bling looking) and it controls my iphone

My brothers Jetta was almost totaled for a 30 dollar Walmart stereo.

Still don't understand. They're about 90% the same as far as visual design goes. About a 6" screen, thin black bezel with the company logo.
Pioneer has a volume button and a few other small buttons in the bezel.

I had a bunch of pics, but Photobucket got all retarded...

I'll get some new ones and load them to flickr so I can post them up here....

I have one in my 4.0Runner, where I just use the head unit to the 4 factory speakers, and an amplified sub under the seat. My SC400 running line out to a 5 channel amp running 4 Rockford components and a sub. and my daughters Jeep Liberty, running a stock setup. To be honest, they do everything you could want.

Most of them will require you dremmel about a millimeter from your dash bezel...But they fit great and look great when done. The ones I got had no branding on them at all. so they kinda look stock.

Do any of you have experience using the DVR functionality of this unit? I would love to enable a dash cam via this system and the DVR function would be key.
