My fiance got me the NFAB steps for Christmas for my 2011 SR5 4Runner so here is the install. I had to order 4"x4" tube 1/4" steel to fabricate the spacers for them to fit below the body kit. The NFAB step ups are ONLY available for the trail version...they should really think about working on getting a set for the SR5 and LIMITED. I called but "no such luck".
It's a pretty simple install if you have the tools but here's a quick recap of what I did.
This is the meat of the install, I didnt want to go on forever with details so I hope this helps....they look badass!
ONTO the lift!
It's a pretty simple install if you have the tools but here's a quick recap of what I did.
- 1 foot piece of the 4"x4"x1/4" tube steel MetalsDepot® - A500 Steel Square Tube
- Cut them into 2" sections (I used a chop saw, pic 1)
- Trace out the hole on the steps onto the 2" tube steel
- Measure the center of the steel and draw a line down it (the center is 2" since the length of the steel is 4")
- Drill the holes within the traced holes you used form the steps and down the center line you measured
- IMPORTANT (the space of the steps and holes in the frame of the 4Runner are exactly the same hole pattern.(no need to crawl under to measure)
- Notice the front bracket under the 4runner has only one hole, used the nut/hole closest to the running board.
- I used a drill press to drill the holes with a few drips of oil as to not burn up my bit (this may take some time without a drill press, it is 1/4 steel)
- You will need to buy 2 EXTRA 8mm bolts, 2 EXTRA washers and 2 EXTRA locking washers and since you are NOT bolting the steps direct into the frame you will need 12 nuts; I got locking nuts rather than using locktite and I never trust a lock washer(10 bolts, washers and lock washers come with the steps)
- I mocked everything up for a trial run to make sure everything lined up
- BE SURE TO SPRAY PAINT THE SPACERS OR THEY WILL RUST IN LESS THAN A WEEK
- When bilting the spacers to the frame they will slide UNDER the brackets holding the running board on (sorry no good pic of that)
- Use painters tape tape your running boards as to not scratch or dents them paint.
- Be sure to use locktite when bolting the spacers to the frame (you have nuts for the steps bolting to the spacer, no need for locktite there)
