From what I've read, the 285/75/17 C = 65 lbs, not 58. The 285/75/17 C and E are both 65lbs since C is 8ply and E is 10ply...

Put the 285/70/17's on 2 weeks ago, smooth riding & quite. Just started a small road trip 3 days ago, 1500 miles so far, may find a little more CO snow tomorrow, they performed well today. Heading to Utah next...

host imagesDrove over Monarch Pass yesterday, tires performed perfectly. Then hit the trails around Arches National park today, fairly deep sand to rocks, I was impressed with the 4Runner & Nitto Ridge tires.

That will be a good comparison. If you can get them offroad in some powder over icey crust I'd love to hear how they do. I'm hemming and hawing over these or some MT's like maybe Toyo Open Country. I really want traction in snowy trails.

I did run them through some iced down snow. It rained over the 12-14" of snow pack near our trail on the Sierras. Pretty nasty stuff that got most of us stuck or sliding. So far they've done good, but nothing the KO2's also couldn't have handled.
I'm putting them through their paces later next month on some desert trails. Will post up a more detailed review soon.

The majority of these reviews seem to be occuring on the road, with some light offroading. Before even being able to compare to other tires, I'd like to see these really tested on the trails.
At one time, the Duratrac was the almighty new tire - only to find out it has weak sidewalls when offroading.

I didn't do a ton of off-road, but you can see for yourself on my cross country 2016 thread. I did some trails in Colorado, and some in Moab. I aired down to about 15 psi if I remember correctly, and didn't experience any issues. Off-road performance was great. I haven't driven them in snow yet, but they feel planted in the rain.

Sigh. It was a simple question not a debate of the merits of the duratrac. Believe me I am fully aware of it's shortcomings and it's strengths. I'm asking because I am considering changing tires. And weak sidewalls or not Duratracs have their strong suits. i.e. light weight, great traction on and off road and IMHO the best all terrain tire by far in icy conditions.

Totally agree with you on the snow performance and traction of the Goodyear.
I think the Nitto would be a great tire, albiet expensive.
I'd also consider the Falken AT3W.

Finally got mine mounted. Took it for a snow run yesterday, perform beautifully in the snow and pretty quiet so far. One thing I may have a concern is the side wall. I aired it down to 18 psi and it seems like the Ridge may have a weaker wall compare to my KO. It seats a bit flatter and spread further out then the KO at the same psi. But again, I can't say for sure. The KO wall has been great in that dept for me but I like everything else about the Ridge. Time will tell.
