Any tire will cut on a sharp rock. The tires are great as long as you treat them right, just like any other tire on the market.

I can also say that the RG is quieter than the ST Maxx on my 4th gen. Even after about 20k the RG is smooth, quiet and plenty of tread left. Now I just need to pick up a set for the Tundra.

I do not but he said it was a gash. Could be luck, could be the tire it's anyones guess. I found the Duratracs to have softer sidewalls then advertised too.

Just finished up a 1600 mile road trip with 285/75/17 RG's.. too say im impressed is an understatement. The truck was loaded up with gear and stuff, I ran though all kinds of weather conditions including flooding rains as well as went off road, trails, rocks and beach conditions with hard to soft sand. Air'd up and air'd down. So far they have handled everything i've thrown at them and functioned as well or better then I could have hoped.
They are amazingly quiet considering how aggressive they actually are. If you drive in complete silence at around 80mph on a smooth paved highway you can try and listen and get a little whine and its almost unnoticeable... but honestly who does that.
The only thing I haven't tested is heavy sticky mud and I did not purchase them with the intention of using them in that condition.

I don't disagree. I believe Lawndart ran the Nitto's the entire Baja trip, so...

Ive seen plenty of images or first hand situations of even the most well known to be tough sidewall tires tear open in the right conditions. Rocks are stronger then tires.. .. its just the way the world works.. Nitto tires are known to be heavier tires but also have some of the strongest sidewalls out there.

I got them stock from the dealership and have been extremely impressed so far. Hit a massive pothole doing about 60 and no issues, haven't slipped on any of the terrain I have had it on so far. Only other tire that I have had that happen was the older BFT AT actually bent a rim and still no blowout with that tire. FREAKING IMPRESSIVE

At first I was thinking it could be different road surfaces but I see that we live around the same general area and we are pretty much on the same road surfaces.
It's been raining on and off all day here and I spent the better part of the morning all over the Baltimore beltway with no issues.
There are the usual slick spots in the rain like left turns at intersections or tightly turning highway on-ramps but I haven't found the tires to be less confidence inspiring than my previous, stock sized and rated, Nitto Terra Grappler.
I have my 285/70/17 Load C inflated to 40psi though.
Maybe you have yours up too high?
I know sidewall says 50psi for the C rated but that may be too high for normal street driving and the weight of our 4Runners.

I'm running a LT295 E rated at 34 PSI Going to do the chalk test once the roads dry and see what my contact patch is. I was thinking pressure may be an issue but who knows.

I think they do really well actually. At least as good as other AT tires I have run (Duratrac, BFG KO2.) I however don't keep my air pressure up high as [MENTION=3442]Boyds4Runner[/MENTION] indicated. 37 front 35 rear. I'm also running 285/75 C rated as a point of reference. 9000 miles so far in a variety of conditions

No, they seem pretty sure-footed in the rain, even in the snow and ice they seem pretty good. I've been pretty impressed so far.
Actually, I think my Cooper ST Maxx on my 4th gen suck in the rain and slick roads.
