They seem pretty good in sand, even when not aired down. Of course, dropping the air pressure definitely helps, no matter what kind of tire you run.

What are you guys running for pressure in either a 285 or 295? Preferably you guys with no added weight. My 4R is on ice in the rain. Really not impressed with these tires AT ALL. So many people seem to love them though, has to be something i'm doing wrong. I'm running a LT295/70/17 E rated

Ok fellas, I just bought these tires for my 15’ sr5. Tire size is 265/70r17... I bought a 17” *8.5 steel wheel with a 6mm offset... I brought the tires and the rims to Mavis today and the said they wouldn’t work because they were pinching the caliber. He told me to get a 2” spacer and then they with work??? 2” spacer seems a little too much and everything on my vehicle is stock I just wanted a more aggressive tire and cheap black rims... anyone have any advice? Thanks TJ

Sounds right, you need a +5 offset on an 8 inch wide wheel. 11mm is more than an inch but less than two.

I'm running a 17x8 wheel with 0 offset and I have no issues at all. BTW 11mm equals .43" so less than 1/2" 26mm equals a hair over 1" 1.02 to be exact.

So did some chalk line testing last night. With my 295/70/17 E Rated Ridge Grapplers, 30 in the back and 32 up front yielded the best contact area. Ride is better now also. We'll see how it does in the snow and rain, will report back.
Is Nitto's website correct? It would appear that the Load E stock size is .01 lb lighter than the load C. Seems odd to me...

I asked Nitto about that a while back and they confirmed with me over the phone those numbers are correct. Still not sure I believe it though.

You'll never run air pressure anywhere close to those numbers. That will change their weight. As for the C and E being that close, seems fishy to me. I can tell you mine are about 65 pounds per tire when uninflated.

Are you saying that the tire weight changes depending on how much air pressure you run in them??

Air does have weight associated with it. And the weight increases with pressure.However it's negligible. Altitude would further exacerbate the difference

Thanks. I’m fully aware that an inflated tire has a negligible weight difference to an unmounted tire at best. Honestly I was just asking if he was seriously claiming that a tire with 80 psi would weigh more than one with 50. It’s hard to tell the seriousness of posts sometimes on here. :noidea:

Yes it'll weigh more but very little as stated above. I was more pointing out the fact that you should not bother with the tire pressure ratings of the C or E rated tire. You'll never push them even to 50 PSI With my Ridge Grapplers, I was getting poor performance in the rain. Had them at 36 PSI and decided to do the chalk line test. 30 in the back and 32 up front yielded next to perfect contact patches. Mine are LT E rated just to throw that out there. Strange to see an LT rating on a E rated tire isn't it?

I have been looking all over the place and I think I am going to pull the trigger on a set of NITTO Ridge Grapplers in 285/70/R17 I have a stock rig is anyone running these tires on a stock TRD Off Road? I know there will be some minor rubbing, also has anyone done 20-25k on them I go off road about 20 times a year and live in NH where it's snowy and Icy 4 months a year. I also commute about 20 miles (each way) on the highway and the 4Runner is my daily driver. any tips or advice, good bad or otherwise is much appreciated.

The Nitto tires run big. You'll likely rub quite a bit. You will also likely rub the sidewall on the upper control arms on stock wheels, possibly to the point that you won't be able to drive it. In all honesty, I highly doubt the tires will fit at all on stock wheels and stock suspension. I ran a 285/70/17 on stock suspension with a 17x8 wheel with 4.5" BS and had rubbing and that was a BFG KO2 which runs a lot smaller than the Nitto tire does. You can give it a shot but made sure you have a backup plan.
