I am bout to pull the trigger on some new shoes, i,ve compared any and all tires imaginable, but for my application with my 4runner i dont see the need in Mud terrains, so i have strayed away from terra grapplers from the beginning. But they seemed to be the best bang for my buck. I would like to get as much reviews from people who run these or have run these and other all terrains, on and off road in all conditions, i hunt alot and i am in the woods year around but i dont want a Mud terrain.
nitto terra grapplers? How good are they compared to other all terrains

Never personally ran these tires, but some of my buddies have and they were disappointed with em. The wore just as fast as a mud tire, and thats not acceptable for an a/t in my opinion. I would look into the bfg a/t ko's. I have ran those on my tacoma and they were great. Got roughly 75,000 out of em with some moderate offroading.

IMO, get Duratracs. I went through two sizes of other all terrains before getting them and kicked myself in the ass for not doing it sooner. The Duratracs are an all terrain with some wider lugs that will allow for easy cleaning if you do get into the mud.

My job requires me to do ALOT of driving. I've had these tires for over a year, and have put 40,000 miles on them. These tires are NOTHING short of amazing. Tread still looks great. They stick to the road, are quiet, yet are aggressive looking, and SUPER inexpensive. I get compliments on them all the time. Compliments... on TIRES... just installed new set on my 2012 sr5-love them!

I went with the BFG rugged terrain and LOVE them... got them in a 275/55/R20 on my limited and do a TON of highway driving.. very quiet, awesome in the snow...highly recommend... i looked at the grapplers and the reviews i saw were mixed...people love them or hate the quick wear....i guess it is a toss up!

I would like Duratracs but they are alot more expensive than terra grapplers, and i dont wanna pay that much if im not gonna need that much more aggresive tire, keep n mind stock tires on the 2010 4runners are the crapy to say the least dunlop at20 and i havent got stuck with them in the woods yet, Yet! And i have been through the worse ill see at my camp with that said i still would like a tire that i didnt have to put the runner in 4wd everytime it rains a little bit at my camp

Got about 40,000km on my TG and they still look great. Very little road noise but I don't really have much to compare it too.

I ran TG on my Frontier for several years. I put 55k on the "D" rated tires before selling them - they still had 6/16th left! $300 in my pocket was certainly nice that I got from craigslist.
Ok, on the narrow (7") rims on my Frontier, the BFGATKO and GY Duratracs were hard to balance. The TerraGrapplers were easy. They wore evenly, are quieter than both the other options, which is because they aren't as beefy/AT s the others. They got the job done offroad for me, no doubt, and behaved very well on road. They were relatively inexpensive and look good.
The Duratracs are very popular around here, but having just rocked them for a couple thousand on my Frontier before selling it, I can tell you I won't be going that way again. Beefy, get lots fo compliments, but the MPG hit, the road noise, etc weren't worth it. I just don't go OR enough to justify putting up with them!
90% odds that I replace the stockers on my TE with Terragrapplers in the next year.

I used them on a nearly 8000km trip, including 1500km unpaved dirt road(Dempster Highway), WITHOUT any issue, very reliable, good on highways, good looking and little noise.
One thing I don't like is the rubber became very hard when in cold weather like -20C/-4F. Poor performance on ice/snow in cold winter days, I plan to get some winter tires on next winter.

Kingping, you live in Calgary too, do you feel the same issue in winter?

Considering what they are I feel like they do pretty well when it's -20c, I was expecting them to be worse. Like I said though I have nothing to compare them too. I came from a MazdaSpeed 3 with winter tires.

just add my .02 about the terra grapplers, worst tire i have ever ran on any vehicle. i wouldnt suggest my enemies run these tires, less grip than all seasons and wear like soap. i've had mud tires that got better mileage…wore em down in 20,000 miles on my 2500HD
I have them on my explorer going on three years and 25k miles. They have a lot of tread left on them, so much that I plan on swapping them to my 4runner when I purchase one. This is the best tire I have owned on an suv, but I am willing to try others.
I do mostly on road driving, they work great in the snow and only done very mild trails with zero problems. Never had them in mud or anything, but they do good cruising around on the beach or sandy roads.
One thing I am interested in is this weight and rolling resistance stuff. My mpg took a dive when I put the nittos on. When they wear out, I hope to have researched into some great tires for my purposes that offer the best mpg's by way of lighter weight and less rolling resistance.

honestly, if you are in the woods year round, off road every weekend, just go with the Duratracs or ATKOs. I think my Duratracs were just as quiet as the ATKOs and are a bit more aggressive (even the link calls them an AT/MT hybrid).

I have run Toyo Open Country A/T 6 ply 265 75 16 on all three of my previous Tacomas, and the least mileage I got out of a set was 115,000 miles. and they still had tread, the problem was that the tire was dry-rotting. I would not run any other tire than the Toyo on any truck I own. I am currently SUFFERING!!! through these DUMB-LOP Grantrek's on my TE, They can't seem to do anything! But I am stubborn and will not change them out till they wear out:crybaby:
