No AM on Pioneer AVIC-X940BT

I recently had a Pioneer AVIC-X940BT install in my 2005 4runner sport with JBL. Among other problems the AM does not pic up anything. They install the y antenna connector but still nothing. Has anyone else with a Pioneer had this same problem?

The install company is saying making excuses saying that pioneer's tech support say that is just the way it is made. I know a lot of people don't use listen to AM anymore but I cannot believe Pioneer would sell a product that list a feature that doesn't work.

I just recently installed a Pioneer 9400, and am looking to install an AVH4400 in my rig today (taking the 9400 out and sending back to crutchfield). BEFORE I got back in my dash and connected the remote amp on wire to the aftermarket harness, i got no reception. after connecting it, my reception picked back up. I do not have the antenna adapter you talk about, but do get AM stations. it's likely they missed connecting the wire to the harness (I believe it's blue). If you need me to, I can scan the instruction sheet I have and post it. hope that helps.

So I installed the 4400 with a home-made bypass relay today, and the stereo is picking up great reception, just as good if not better than the stock (I know this because I switched back and forth between radios while testing different radio stations. You don't need the Y-splitter that people are talking about (I called Crutchfield- aftermarket stereos have ONE tuner, where the factory decks have two for the diversity antenna setup). if you use the large plug for the antenna, the pioneers have a tenacious enough tuner that the stereo comes in just fine. definitely wire up the blue wire!!! It's the one with a label over the end. It's the remote "on" for the antenna amplifier. that will solve your AM reception issues.

Thanks man. That is what I needed to know. I will add it back to my list of things they need to fix.

If they balk at what wire to connect, it's the one that would normally be a remote turn on for the amp. It will send a signal any time your stereo would use speakers. For your purposes that would be an "on" for the antenna. Don't settle for crappy reception, mine truly is good. Pioneer's have the best aftermarket reception around (that I know of).

Problems continue

The install company has still not fixed the issue with the am reception. And I am also having a problem with the factory steering wheel controls. When I am on listening to the radio and hit the up and down buttons it changes the radio frequency rather then going through my preset, if I hold down the buttons it will seek up and down like it did on the factory unit. Anyone else have this problem with their Pioneer?

Where do you connect the Blue wire?
