No BS, what did you pay for your 2005?

Pitbull said:
Anytime you trade a vehicle in they pay you instantly. If the car you are selling is in perfect condition then you should never take Kbb trade in value. You need to look at the whole deal, and the dealer can make money on one end or the other but I won't let them make it on both ends.

Ok, so if you just concentrate on buying the truck at the best deal possible, you limit the dealer and yourself to one simpler thing.
Then u concentrate on selling the car privately for your best deal.

Then you have the best of both deals:)

Got to agree, but selling yourself is a pain in the ass :)

So we can all understand what kind of deals are out there and what we should be paying tell us what your 4runners MSRP was and what you paid. No taxes and no invoice bs, just the numbers we all can see when we look at the sticker at the dealership.

tell us what your 4runners MSRP was and what you paid.

I checked them out and their no haggle price is what you can do at most dealers and they "steal" your trade-in. I compared the trade-in to sales price average on say a used Nissan 350Z and they will pocket $5000 on a no hassle deal. I don't call that a deal. :( Carmax use to have good deals back in the mid 90's when they first got started. They now have way to much over head. Also you can work the internet sales staff at several Toyota dealerships and get them working agains't each other and beat their new car deals.

I was able to get above KBB on my trade. But it was coincidence. My parents bought an 05 Titan from Carmax in Dec 04. I told the sales kid I'd buy the loaded 04 Titan LE sitting on the lot if I got enough for my trade.

They offered 13k, $1000 more than KBB. It would of cost me at least $1000 to re-condition it (door & roof dings, chips in hood and bumpers, 3 scratched rims). Dealers can get that stuff done cheaper. Local dealers had the same car listed, for 14k.

I took the trade offer to Carmax Toyota and bought a 4Runner. The salesman in Laurel could not believe the trade-in offer. :D

They listed my car for 17k. They had it for a few weeks, at two different locations. I don't know if it sold, or went to auction.

Carmax creates a strange market around here. If you haggle on a trade-in with a normal dealer, they will tell you to take your trade-in to Carmax, then come back and buy. They know Carmax prices and most won't go much lower. Carmax by far has the best inventory.

For me, saving a few hundred was not worth the hassle. I got the exact vehicle I wanted.

I paid $29,600 - $1000 rebate for my 2005 Beautifully Black Sport Edition V6 4WD.

MSRP: $33,031 I believe.

I thought I got a good deal but it sounds like mine was not the best. I would have chosen to go with the sunroof instead of the JBL 6-Disc 10-speaker, but couldn't find that particular model in Black in my area. So I settled and rushed to making the purchase before the rebate vanished. It was probably all a marketing ploy anyway.

Hey! New to the board but I've been lurking for a while. There's a ton of great information on here. Anyway, I've been looking for a 4runner for about 2 months now. Specifically looking for a 2003 because I'm trying to stay in the 25-26k range. After reading what everyone has been paying, it makes me wonder why they are so much higher in my area (East TN). The lowest price that I've come across is $25,998 for a '03, heavily smoked in, SR5 with 49k miles. They wouldn't budge on the price and they were about $500 under kbb on my 12 yr old trade. I've got 4 Toyota dealers looking but everything that comes up is much higher. This weekend I found an '03 SR5 with 35k miles for $29,975 and a '04 SR5 with 47k for $32,900. Is it just my area or does this pricing seem average? If this is the case, and I can get an '05 for the same thing, maybe that's the route I should go. Will the '05 drop that much whenever the '06 comes out? Thanks for any info. I hope to be in a 4runner soon and spend some time around this board.

Buy new and use Edmonds for your pricing. Contact the internet sales dept. for all 4 dealerships and tell them you want their best price for a new 05, let them know you are getting bids from all 4 dealerships in your area and will be buying from the dealer with the best price. Also give them your credit score and as them to also quote a loan rate at the number of months you want to finance. Good luck

The dealer and I settled at invoice ($29,317) before any rebates factored in.

I took advantage of the special financing (2.9%) and got a $400 college grad rebate (now I just gotta graduate :D). They would not drop their $300 processing fee, so it ended up $100 below invoice after the rebate.

Titanium SR5 V6 4x4

the sticker price on mine was 34,500 and i walked out of there with it for 28,500... the trick is to look up the invoice price and offer them between200-300 above invoice price..

THat is way too high!

I bought my 04 V6 SPort edition 4X4
with jbl , double decker, sunroof etc with 15,000 miles for right at 21,500. So 23,000 after tax. Keep looking you will find better deals. Hell for 28 k you can buy a sport edition V6 from carmax! Keep shopping around!!

Now THAT is what I'm looking for! I have spoken with every dealer in my area and surrounding counties and they are all comparable. I usually do pretty good when car buying because I'm very patient and willing to wait for the right deal to come along. I've just been suprised at the East TN dealers unwillingness to budge on the 4Runner.
Thanks for everyones reply. I'll keep looking and annoying my local car lots.

skirob, Are you looking for 4WD ones or it doesn't matter? Cause I paid $26000 OTD for my 05 SR5 2WD. Now that's $24762 before the tax(5% tax here), which is under invoice($50 below I believe). If you don't mind the base model like I do, I can refer you to the Georgia dealer where I bought mine from. Or you can buy mine so I can upgrade to a 4WD one :)

Try consumerreports.org. For $12 you can get the actual prices of everything including all of the dealer holdback information and any "special" incentives that Toyota doesn't tell you about. It's the cheapest $12 you will spend when shopping for a new vehicle of any kind. The other place to get some leverage is from one of the internet sites like carsdirect.com. Their prices are generally lower than the dealers will start off. Gives you some good bargaining chips. I am also shopping for a new 4R so I'm just checking out the site right now.
