No Driveshaft Clunk from 15250 to 20700

Just following up on this, at 15250 I pumped enough Mobile One synthetic grease to get expansion of the Slide yoke, approximately 30 pumps for the rear slide yoke and I stopped at 25 on the front slide yoke. On the driveshft U joints it only took 2-3 pumps before I heard the grease starting to express. I was a little late getting on 20,000 maintainence, I'm at around 20,700. There has been no clunk the entire time.

Here today I needed 29 pumps to get expansion of the rear slide yoke and only 20 pumps to get expasion on the front slide yoke. The U joints only needed 2-3 pumps once again. This seems to be a reasonable maintainance solution.

I'll report back again at 30,000.

I can also make it go away for a few months by lubing the joints with Mobil 1.

I've read that it's not good to crank that much lube into the slip joints. Unlike the u-joints where you stop when the old grease comes out, that won't happen with the slip joints until they're overloaded. I put in less than 10 pumps and stop; as a guide, I put in about twice as much as the u-joints take. If the u-joints only need 2-3, then I put about 5-6 in the slide yoke. That's working fine.

:iagree:
Jacking grease in there increases the pressure on the whole drivetrain, including the transmission. My good friend who is an experienced mechanic and shop owner, tells me the "clunk" is really nothing to worry about, and may actually be a good thing as it gives some play to the drivetrain, which would take the brunt of it in an event where a drivetrain component might otherwise break. He just advises lubing the yokes and slip joints like normal, at the normal intervals, and just driving the vehicle. It doesn't really annoy me that much anymore, and I am a perfectionist like many of you (just ask my realtor).
