No power when accelerating, possible head gasket/water pump?

Hey yall, cant figure this one out. so here are the symptoms:

Died out of no where on a long trip back from LA.
-no previous signs of problems, just suddenly lost power to acceleration and as i pulled over to shoulder it died.

turns on and idles fine since, but there is a steady drip coming from or around the water pump.

When it died, no smoke, no over heat, no leaks or trails of fluid.

have had battery issues since: doesn't hold charge

and still no power when accelerating.

sputtering in exhaust (no smoke) but definate sputtering here and there when accelerating, sound coming from tailpipe. not a backfire sound, but a popping or harsh sputter

Please help, any advise or thoughts are welcome.

sounds like a problem with your timing/coil which could lead to your sputtering. maybe combined with alternator problems which didn't allow your battery to charge.

If its the v6 could be bad water pump and possible timing belt due to skipping a tooth these are picky on timing one Toth or few degrees and no power

battery doesn't hold a charge? Replace the battery and get the alternator checked..... Dead battery will make your runner run like crap.
