No sound from stereo?

I have a 2003 with the JBL sound system. Everything seems to be functioning except I have no sound. The stereo shows the volume level if I turn the dial, but no sound. All other functions work, I can switch from CD to radio, stations will display on screen. Hoping its maybe a simple fix without having to remove stereo unit from dash. Anybody experience this with their stereo unit?

I had that happen to mine a few times. It usulally started working after turning it off and back on. I once had to disconnect the battery. I think the problem is the amp in the back.

Thanks for the info. Is the amp easily accessed? And how would one test it to find out if it's failed?
If my amp has failed, I would be interested in that spare one. Thanks

I had just found that old thread on removing the panel. Looks like I have a project for the weekend. Thanks again for the help.

Pay attention to post #10 about removing the cargo net star. The pictures are wrong. Do not use pliers. You just pull on the star part and the fastener will pop right out.

Plug and play AMP

Are there any easy choices for a plug and play AMP to replace the one in my 2003 4runner limited. Would like to avoid having to rewire anything.

You should check the speakers before replacing the amp. If any one speaker is blown or hurt it can shut the amp down.

Thanks for the info, didn't know that about the speakers. Sound likes a big task to remove panels and such to check all eight speakers.

Definitely sounds like the amp is cutting out, I have a spare 1 if you need it, let me know

Had my AMP tested at local stereo shop. Definitely my AMP is bad. So yeah I'm interested in that spare if still available. My options for upgrading to aftermarket were out of my price range for now. Let me know how much you want with shipping.

Thanks

Freaking crap. I used to be able to turn the car off and back on and the sound would return. Now, no audio at at all! Suck!! It is bleeding cold out and now I have to tear into the car. Frickity frack.

Before you tear into it, make sure the fuse is still good. Radio 2 fuse powers the speakers and amp. At least it does in my JBL stereo. Radio appears to work, but the fuse was blown so no sound.

OOOOOOooooooo! I was not aware there were two fuses, at least potentially two! I'll look tomorrow. Thanks much, my friend!

Update (09 January, 2016):

Both fuses are on good order. Still no sound. Dang it.

Can we remove the fuse to reset the radio or amp like they do on 5th gens? My amp cuts out occasionally, despite me replacing the factory head unit, amp, and speakers. The symptoms stop when I remove the radio and plug it back in. Removing a fuse would be much easier. At any rate, I'll try it myself and report back.

I have a base (non JBL) system in my 2008 and as I was turning up the volume to max I lost all speakers EXCEPT the 2 small speakers (tweeters?) in the front. Thinking I blew the internal amp in the radio I replaced the radio with another one (bench tested and numbers match the pulled unit), but still only have sound from the 2 small front speakers. The Radio 1 and Radio 2 fuses are good. There must be an open connection somewhere between the radio and the non-working speakers, but I don't know where else to look. Any suggestions?

Bringing this one back... I have a 03 T4R 4.0 limited with the JBL system. I disconnected the battery, and now the stereo doesn't work... the orange illumination light is on but no text, or any codes. I can't turn it Off or On, just the solid light. I've tried disconnecting the negative terminal and pumping the brakes 15 or so times and trying again. No luck... Anyone have a solution?
