NOCO Power Plug Install. Ideas before cutting?

Thanks man. Yeah, I got the Noco Genius 2D on sale for $50 Cdn, normally $69. They are on sale direct from Noco for $39 USD right now. Its super small and took about 2 minutes to mount. Time will tell how well it works.

Good job on the install. I have the NOCO 5 Amp but just use it occasionally on the bench. As long as you’re tending to your battery, take a look at the water level in each cell. My 3 year old original Panasonic needed a little water (distilled) in the cells closest to the pos and neg terminals.

I've got an Odessey AGM battery on order, just getting the charger installed in advance before the weather turns nasty cold. I'll be using this Costco battery for other purposes down the road. It hasn't been maintaining its voltage overly well since I bought the 4Runner, so I decided to make the jump to an AGM before winter.

I also keep a NOCO GB40 jump pack in my daily back pack just in case.

Until a month ago I'd never owned a NOCO product, now I've got 3, so I guess I'll get to field test some products.

Looks like you got it figured out, but I went this route for my 4A battery tender (page 3 shows it):

I 3D printed a power port that mounts directly in my grille, with no cutting needed. The port also allows me to plug my little Viair compressor in directly to power, rather than popping the hood and using clamps.

Gotta admit, that's a pretty smooth solution to your battery charger issue.

The charger that I bought has a 2 prong 110 outlet plug on. I tested my front grill and wasn't convinced it could withstand being pushed and pulled on in the cold winter temps here.

Also, I have zero 3d printer skills...... so there's that. lol

Thanks! I like your solution too - blends in nicely and doesn’t look out of place. One other great thing about yours is that you can use it anywhere you have a 120V outlet. My charger gets left at home so I’m out of luck if I want to charge somewhere else.
 
Well.. It's done. I still have to zip tie some wires and put a wire loom on to protect the positive and ground cable, but it is operational.

After some consideration, I choose the removable panel on the cowl. The plug gives me confidence that water won't be an issue, the location worked great for mounting the charger within reach and it looks clean and stealth when not in use.

If I ever choose to sell the vehicle, or just remove the charger, I can change that panel in the cowl in about 60 seconds and it'll look stock again.

I’m thinking about doing the same, but I had to relocate the relay block into that corner for another project. I’m curious what your install looks like under the cowl and going down into the engine bay.

Not sure if this is exactly what you wanted, so let me know. I've circled an area where the hood hinge was rubbing on the cable at first but I just had to bend the cable a little more to avoid contact.

Excuse the dirt in the engine bay.... I like puddles.

Question for anyone that's used the cowl seal - did you use the NOCO provided screws or did you use a machine screw and nut to secure this? Second, did you apply any silicone or sealant between the NOCO and the cover gasket and the cowl?

That's a very clean install, nicely done!.

I used the NOCO screws, I was going to upgrade them to small bolts with nuts but it has held really well as is so far.

I didn't use any silicone as the NOCO is a sealed unit except the rubber door, and I have zero concern about water getting through into the engine bay. As you can tell in my pictures, lots of dirty water finds its way in from other places.
 
I used the included screws, not machine screws. No sealant, the plug has a rubber ring but the cowl is also open to the elements underneath so no sense worrying about waterproofing there.
