Noise while reversing in 4wd

I'm experiencing a strange noise when i'm in 4 hi and 4 lo and I can really only hear it when I'm in reverse and only in 4wd.

I should have mentioned that the noise seems to be getting worse.

It kind of sounds like it's not engaging, but I know 4wd is working. It makes kind of a clicking noise, but not an electronic clicking noise. It's hard to explain the sound, kind of like catapillar tracks on pavement?

My truck is a 2011 SR5.

I really don't want to take it back to the dealer, any ideas? Thanks.

Mine sounds the same, forward or backwards. I think you NEED to get to the dealer...warranty is your friend. Be Safe.

I'm well out of my warranty. :driving:

Any idea of what's going wrong? I haven't had a chance to check the transfer case fluid, but it isn't leaking fluid any where.

I guess i'm going to post up clues as I remember them.

It seems to be coming from something that is spinning, because it speeds up as the wheels speed up.

I hear the noise through the transfer case lever.

I wish I had a lift so that I could diagnose the noise. Having the truck on jack stands while it's in gear with all four wheels spinning and laying underneath, doesn't sound like a good place for me to be.

I need some volunteers.

How many miles you got on that thing bud? You know the power train, which includes transfer case is 60K 5 year right? If you are already above that mileage, my apologies. I do not have a clue of what it could be, but it just sounds bad.....be safe.

68,500

I'll have had it 2 years in december. Is that not normal mileage?

Oooch. So sorry. No, that's a bit high. 12-15 per year, is considered "normal".....good to see your getting good use of your machine. Be safe.
