I know that lift questions have been asked a million times. I've been reading through these <excellent> forums for the past 3 hours and have gathered all the knowledge i can about leveling out my '05 sport. I've ran in to some trouble though. I really like the simplicity of the Daystar kit, but, I dont think I really want to raise mine that high front and rear. The front only is still 2.5" (3" for some apparently). I think i'd prefer something closer to the 1.25-1.75 range. Trouble is, i can't find a kit that does NOT require spring compressors that offers this level of lift. I feel I've given it the old college try but have come up empty handed.. so, I'm resorting to the NOOB post. Thank you for any help you can provide... and all of your pictures of your rides are freaking AWESOME!

Here is my take on it:
First of all: with ALL preload spacers you will need spring compressor so you can disassemble the strut to add preload spacer.
Second: there are many different versions made by different companies that have top-out spacers lift. Some of them have top spacers that do not require disassembling of the strut, so you do not need springs to be compressed (DS 2.5 is one of them). Those types of lift have bolt extenders, again like DS2.5 lift.
There are also some other lifts (you can find them on e-bay) that have spacers made out of the aluminum or other metal that already have studs build-in and “ears” that you will use to attach spacers to your struts. That is done so you do not need springs to be compressed, but those spacers will be at least 1” of material and they will give you 2” of lift (this is based on 4-th gen 4Runner front suspension geometry).
The other type of top-out spacers comes with new and longer bolts, like DS 1” spacer. In order to replace existing bolts in the top plate of your strut with the longer one you will need to have spring compressor. Those spacers are normally will be from 0.5” to 1” thickness of the material and will give you from 1” to 2” of lift.
But here is bottom line: you need to choose what lift you want first and do not worry about spring compressor. When I did my lift, I used rental spring compressor from AutoZone. It was a free and spring compression itself added 20 minutes to each side. It was very easy! Probably the easiest part of the install! So again, chooes your lift first.
