Noob ???

Know a guy that did that to his '92. He'd already decided he was going to swap to a straight axle, and had a grip of old CVs to burn through, so he welded up his front and hit the trail. He limped back down in 2WD after going through at least 3 CVs.

'Course, he was trying to break them, but still...

Considered that just for the hell of it. Going to the junkyardtoday to see what I can see. Thought I might just grab a few extra axles to throw in.

I'm gonna look for the Toyota eLocker. Any good reccomendations on the LSD for the front?

Front and rear?

I would use the TrueTrac in front, and go with a full locker like the Aussie or Detroit in the rear. The limited slip (TT) won't mess with your steering and will be easier on parts, and the locker will give you full traction on the trails (just use caution on slippery pavement).

Ditto, except I think you'll spend less and be happier if you watch for a good deal on a complete rear axle with a factory elocker.

Guys I know that have driven automatic lockers on snowy/icy roads report a high pucker factor. YMMV.

My bad--I was going to include that, and forgot. A question for myself--I've read that the E-locker won't go in a housing that didn't already have one. Will this be a complete axle swap, or can the other housings be modified to fit?

Personally, I hope to find a complete axle, it'll make install nice and easy. You don't have to, though - the early 8" pumpkin can be modified to accept a toyota elocker. There's holes to be drilled, and I think you have to grind out some of the inside of the housing, but it can be done.

Just sent off on price quotes installed and uninstalled! Hoping to either have a build thread or completed pics within a month!

Detroit Tru Trac with 4.88's in the rear. Leaving the front open for now,but upgrading 4.88 gear.

Will also being doing Toy Tec 2" lift and wheel spacers.

After all that It will sit and look pretty in the driveway as I will have no money left for gas. LOL!

Because a full locker, automatic or selectable, will kick an LSDs butt any day of the week. The only benefit to an LSD (for your truck) is in the front, where it'll reduce the chance you'll bust a CV, and will behave itself if you're in 4wd on slick pavement. Performance-wise, you'd do much better to use a real locker in the rear.

Correction. Yukon Grizzly in the rear with open front.

Is 4.88 gear too much for 31's?

That sounds better! I was wondering why you decided to go with a limited slip (TrueTrac) after all the recommendations for a locker. I haven't heard much about the Grizzly, but Marlin Crawler is very impressed with it, so I would trust their word (those guys know gear!). As crutchy stated, 4.88's are the match for 33's, but you should be fine with them--you should get slightly better acceleration, but possibly lose a tad on mileage. Also, your speedo may read a little higher than actual (but not much, I wouldn't think). Good luck with everything!

Now comes the wait. I wont be able to take it off the road for a few more weeks. I will have a new DD soon. Thanks for all the help! This will be one sweet ride.
