Nor Cal Bay Area Clifford retailers and installation shops

Hi all,

I just purchased a 2006 Sport 4Runner and I'm in the market for an alarm system. I've checked out some of the archived reports, and it appears the Clifford AvantGard 5 is the way to go.

That said, does anyone know of any reputable retail stores and installation shops in the Nor Cal Bay Area? Also, what do these security kits + installs usually go for?

The install can be pretty pricey... it really comes down to what the installer charges hourly. I think it cost me a little over 1000 for my Avantgaurd 4 for the system and the install, but I also bought the optional OmniSensor for 80 bucks extra, but I think that is included in the AV 5.

A lot of people seem to like Juniors Car Stereo in Fremont. I personally have not used them and can not recommend them.
Who I can recommend is Rick at Peter's Auto Radio in San Francisco. Rick has done all my work in my '95 4Runner and did an excellent job with a Clifford Intellivoice IQ alarm 10 years ago as well as my sound system a couple of times. That alarm is still working great and never had problems with it. But its old technology, so I might soon be taking the 4Runner back to him to upgrade that alarm. Possibly to a Matrix RSX 50.5. But first he's going to do a 50.5 in my Grand Prix.

Custom Car Alarm in Pleasant Hill. They've been around for years (started in S.F.) and have a great reputation for alarm and stereo installs. I'll be taking my 06 there for Alarm and NAV.

One last question, and this might be a doosie...is the warranty voided if I take my car to an aftermarket installation shop, not of Toyota affiliation?

You talking about the warranty on the 4Runner or the alarm? If the 4Runner, than definitely not. However, if the alarm is not istalled correctly or for some other reason, either the installer, the installation process or the alarm itself cause a component on the 4Runner to break or malfunction and that can be determined by a Toyota dealer, than that would not be covered by the warranty.
If you have an extended warranty either through Toyota or a third-party you might want to check the terms of that as those sometimes differ from the manufacturers included warranty.

aftermarket alarm will not void the warranty of the car, u must purchase and install the alarm from the shop so the alarm be warranty. get the compustar, i got 3000 feet of 2 way range :biggrin2:
