Those gauges aren't accurate and are slow to move with temp. You'd have to get a scan gauge or ultraguage to know for sure.

According to Ultraguage mine usually runs between 188-194.
Don't ever remember seeing it over 196 even in super hot and humid and stop and go.
That is running about 50/50 distilled water and Toyota Red coolant.
The more "water" you run the cooler it should run a bit cooler, however it will also boil at a lower temp and has less anti corrosive properties.
I change my coolant every 2 years

I've made my piece with operating at 205, but because of your video and curiosity, if I have before the winter I might go in and change it to 6 o'clock position and report back

For sure your temps will drop 15-20 degrees upon re-positioning the jiggle valve. When I replaced my T-belt and H20 pump last spring, I also replaced the thermostat and installed a new radiator while I was at it. I too installed the thermostat with the jiggle-valve at 12 o'clock per some misleading write up or youtube vid, even though I had the FSM saved on my iPad which I could/should have just as easily been following. I bought a scan gauge soon after performing that maintenance to better monitor my truck. My temps were running 200-220 degrees. I definitely never noticed any higher temp reading per the in-dash water temp gauge, but I could smell that the truck was running hotter than before. So, I did some reading and realized I had put the jiggle-valve in upside-down. After changing the position of the jiggler, my truck runs between 188-193 degrees, ALWAYS.

Great video. Any thought to draining a little more coolant out by opening the drain on the block? When I did a drain & fill I had a decent amount come out after draining the radiator.

I've never bothered worrying about what's left in the block. You get most of it out by just draining the radiator, which is around 2 gallons.

I get around 195-198 in city with AC on hot/normal days. On parkway doing 80 with AC and humid like hell. I was about 204-210. Wasn't worried at all. I think enginee are designed to run a specific temp. So to cool isn't probably good nor is to hot. However I never see my stock gauge go over the middle.

Well just for a visual, this is what I got out of the block into a 1 gallon jug after draining the radiator. I know it's not much but if you're one who suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder then it would be on your mind.

I'm prone to OCD behavior but even I wouldn't bother with draining the block if that's all that's in there. Confirmed what I thought. Not worth the effort.

With a 170 thermostat amd the SC, my temps were regularly 185-190 in summer. I wouldnt go much below that.

I've ran really low thermostats in few different vehicles. Main issue is the car takes so long to warm up it never flips to closed loop. Wr would have to flash or tune the ECU to trick it into flipping closed loop at a lower temp.
Also heater sucks ass in winter.
Over the last week, I took my '01 in for several things (dealer), one of which was to have them let me know if a running temp of 204 degrees was excessive. They said it was. They then replaced my t'stat (installed in 2014), replaced the radiator cap because they said it was cracked and charged be $202.
After taking possession, I rechecked (via OBD2 Fusion) and it was running 204 degrees. I took it back, another mechanic confirmed 204 was "perfect" and they refunded my $$.
When I asked them about where they positioned the "jiggle valve" they told me it made no difference and was....."not a factor in controlling the operating temp of the engine".
I am not sure what to do at this point.

just check the thermostat yourself..its only 2 bolts to pop off to get to the stat and flip it to the 6 o clock position
i was running the same temps as you intill i fliped my t stat and now im at a cool 190
