Figured I would start a thread for build stuff and as a place to post my pictures.

I bought my '11 Trail Edition used in November 2013.

It was stock when I got it

First things I had done were to add heated seats [done locally], new wheels and winter tires, and swapped out the antenna.

I had a local sign place do the wrap. They made it look easy but I know I would have lost my patience pretty quickly!

Thanks. I know what you mean. 3M's website makes it sound DIY and pretty easy but I bet there are a lot of tricks to it.

Got the RCI skid and filler plate installed today along with the defiant lightbar.

Had some serious issues with the RCI materials. Sent them an email and hoping to hear back.

2 issues:

#1: the instructions directed me to reuse the hardware for the attachment at the front of the skid. With the added thickness of the skid, and the thickness of the filler plate the original hardware was not long enough.

#2 and more significant: the intermediate aluminum brace beam has a slot that is supposed to open to the front of the car. That way you can reach up thru the oil filter access port and torque the nut onto the smooth carriage bolt that passes thru the center of the skid and secures there. My brace was bent incorrectly and the slot open to the rear. There was no way to tighten the nut as you could not reach it from that position.


I contacted Josh @ RCI and explained the problem to him. He offered to send two new bolts -which I dont need now because I already stopped working and had to go find some. Unfortunately he offered no solution to the brace issue only saying maybe there was a mix-up. Which doesnt really help me at all.

Send him pictures and say it won't work and that he needs to send a corrected replacement skid. At least you will both be on the same page visually vs. trying to describe the issue. If the problem is truly with the skid he should pay for shipping both ways to make it right and get you the product you paid to have in the first place.
