G'day, i have a 2nd gen 90 4runner with 22r engine. i have recently had problems with it not chargin at all, well very very little, like 11.4 at max. i went to replace the alternator and noticed it wasnt the stock, the one thats in it is actually externally regulated. Anyways i have replaced the alternator with one that fits, with no avail. then i replaced the regulator, a little bit of improvement up to 12.1 to about 12.6v. some one please help me. ,

Thanks,

Have you checked the battery, I'm guess your reasoon for saying its not charging is the car isn't starting. I just had a bad battry in my diesel truck and it wouldn't take a charge no matter how long i had it on the charger. I also Had a 89 toyota pickup that had bad connection in the fuse box that kept screwing with my alternator. with the 22r Engine THANK GOD FOR LOW RANGE

Yeah ive tried 3 different battieries. i've checked over all the Circuit breakers and fuses, im checked all cable junctions im just out of ideas...

still having problems?!! any help? i had a guy look over it and everything passed amperage wise, but not volts. we come to the conclusion that the external regulator wasnt engaging and disengaging at the right limit. anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,

um im not sure but it could be the alt. i would try using a oem and not with one that "fits" b/c all alts are diffrent and have different charging outputs.
it could very well be that your alt's charging output is not rated high enough for the 22r engine.

hope this helps you man

Thanks for ur idea's mate, after i replaced the alternator which i got new, is from the corona,,. i have no stereo, no other lights other than stock, pretty much no accessory's at all. any other idea's? i've tried 3 regulators now. with no difference at all. i read the service manual,. it breifly mentions adjusting the engaging and disengaging points? any other thoughts??

yeah sure have, all the alternators pass every test i've put them through and had man other guys put them through, its giving me the ****s coz its unreliable when i drive with the lights on,. ive replaced everthing, mixed and matched all the regulators with the previous and current alternator. still no difference.
