Not OEM, Not Canadian Fang, a Bug Shield with lift.

The problem with bug deflector both the OEM and the la version Canadienne is that neither have a "lip" in the back to actually guide bugs over one's windshield at freeway speed. This may seem minor but I simply hate those splats that come in the middle of Kansas, and then a spritz from the windshield cleaners which turns it into something resembling yellow birthday cake....you get the picture.

I asked my guy at Toyota today to find me a bug deflector with lift that does not look like it came off the front of a train.

Riding x country in June. Just know those critters are waiting in the summer night.............and I hate to have the Boss interrupted when cruising.

NOW THAT'S PRETTY DAMNED FUNNY! I took my OEM deflector off because the rubber mounts had dried out and the ends were flapping in the wind. So now every time I smear a tiny yellow corpse across the window, I'm going to start laughing.

Got a call from Toyota (Maita) here in Sacramento. He says he has a supplier who has a deflector made for 03-05 with a rise on the back lip. He says that the hood on the 07 will fit this one as well says he checked the size of the hoods. He will sell it for $129. installed. Says it may need a few additional plastic or rubber bumpers..... going in Saturday to take a look at the picture he has....your guys and gals advice appreciated!

No lip on that

This one is pretty flat -- might keep the stones off the leading edge of the hood, which is why I might put it back on.

Update

I went to the Toyota dealer (Maita) in Sac this am. Ralph has a hybrid version made for an 05 4Runner which has two modest "fang" like protectors and rounded edges on the end of the bug shield. It has a lip on the edge nearest the windshield. sold it to me for $129.00. Should be here in a couple weeks and will post a pic when I get it attached to the Beast.

Bug Shield

$129 isn't too bad of a price if it keeps the stones and bugs off the front.

I am thinking of reinstalling mine as well if I can find some replacement rubber nuts and the clear protective tape for the leading edge of the hood.

I would like to paint it before I put it on -- any ideas out there about the best method and materials?

The way the Toyota guy explained it to me was clean the hood very well and place the bumpers (once you locate some) right up against the deflector itself. Helps with shimmies he said.

In terms of painting, if I were in that spot I would check in with a local airfield service bay for the way they prime and paint aircraft to get some ideas. body shop should be up on it as well.

regarding the price...I am sure that I overpaid for it by about $50.00. saw that after........he did save me a lot of time and trial and error and should it not fit etc... he will easily credit my account. pays to trade with people I know......

we are ramping up for our x country trip. gonna be bug city through the midwest.... especially at dusk. any of you folks in the great Midwest/Eastern States use anything in your windshield washer feel free to advise.......:hello: :bowdown:

I use RainX everything - cleaner, treatment, washer fluid, and wipers, and the "yellow birthday cake" does seem to come off a lot easier even just using the wipers. Must be all that silicone additive.

Where are you headed in the Midwest states? We're pulling a boat and jet skis up to Glen Lake, Michigan from Columbus later in the summer with some friends. We boat and hang out with the kids by day, eat like pigs all the time, and drink like bikers at night...then start all over again the next day.

We are heading Sactown to Radnor, PA on I 80 for my son's wedding. Leaving here May 30 arriving Philly June 5. Party for the weekend then traveling back June 9

Thinking to stop in Chi'town June 12... to see the Cubbies. after that we will probably stop into Marges diner for a piece of peach pie....and chat it up with the truckers>>back to Sac around June 17.

your plans sound quite similar to the Philly crowd.....my boy says. "Pop, these people throw down for a party".....LOL

NO lip needed. I can observe with my own two peepers that wind (or bugs or rain) is WITHOUT A DOUBT deflected off most of my hood, during a heavy rain.

You havent seen a bug issue till you have seen the LOVEBUGS in FL. And since having my TOYOTA canada guard I havent had NEAR the issues that I used to have with both bugs and rocks.

I like the fangs, they look like fangs for blood sucking.
