2017 flopped on BB pass. Seems almost hard to do at that spot. Thinking really bad line choice and that tire on the roof sure the heck does not help. But I'm not going to judge.. because stuff happens and conditions change. Be careful folks... just saw another LC that rolled over on an easy trail in CO and one precious life was lost and another critical injury in that one. This one just looks like material items were crushed. Gravity is no joke. Get some seat time where shelf roads are not involved before doing this stuff....

Wow!....seems you would have to turn uphill right as the front dropped over a hole to force the Roll?! Yeah, tire on top could not have helped!:yield:
 
At least the snorkel was OK. LOL.

Don't want to bash on the guy because bad stuff can happen to anyone off-road.. Curious to hear what the story was. Seems like it is probably someone here, the truck looks very familiar.

Pictures never show the angles, but I've ran that trail and nothing tricky when dry, but there were probably some bad lines possible. This looks like the end of the steps... which is the only spot remotely off camber.

Honestly, I think the "approach" to the switchbacks on Black Bear has gotten more eroded over the last 20 years or so. Just did that at the end of July, and it was definitely something you'd need full attention on.

They eliminated that button at some point... I'm pretty sure. I always forget to hit it since it is a momentary button and not a toggle switch. Think it went away in 2014 or 2015.

Yea, you have to hug the wall at one point and keep the passenger door pretty close, but it seemed too obvious to miss that line. Maybe no spotter turned things into a really bad day. I can't tell exactly where this is. I remember the tram line over the valley. Must be below the steps.

I can see where it was now... just before the steps.

I just hope they did not try to start it and grenade the motor. If this happens... Pull the plugs before turning it over to be sure. The motor can hydrolock via oil.

Conditions do change from year to year. I don't remember this being anything last year, but things do change.

That is after they winched it back up, so could be in a totally different position once pulled back. Also, could still be hooked up in the pic.

But sure does look like he could have just followed the fall line... This is how people learn though. Just not a good trail to learn on. It's easy, but mistakes can equal death on that trial and many others in CO. I just hope people are not doing this without experience because i have a bad feeling about what has been going on lately with all the accidents in CO. This one is minor. but i've seen two really nasty ones in the last few weeks. Not sure why all after peak summer season, but the Land Cruiser accident was tragic.

I wouldn't want to learn in a 4x4 that's valued at $40k plus. That's what old jeeps and trucks are for. And why I have an 87 Wrangler.
 
Guess you can't bolt on basic driving skills.

While I feel for the loss of the vehicle, this is not a hard trail at all. It looks more precarious than it really is. And people will continue to do stupid shit and ruin it for the rest of us.

I'm actually planning a trip to CO next year, do the Alpine Loop with Engineer and Imogene Pass. Buddy I'm supposed to go with sent me those pics via FB -- bet he has a bit of a pucker factor now.

Maybe I should plan some local runs with them first to get more wheel time under their belts...

Yea I second that, I've seen vehicles almost lost on what should be minor obstacles. This is a good reminder to always back-up and take another stab at it if the approach isn't right.
