November 2015 Meet and Trail Run

NOVEMBER MEET UP AND TRAIL RUN
The meet will be Saturday, 14 November. The run will be to White Mountain in the vicinity of Big Bear.
Difficulty: Easy initial run with a follow on difficult group.

Meet Location:
Green Valley Lake parking area


From Hwy-18, turn onto Green Valley Lake Rd, and proceed 3.5 miles until you see the lake and parking to the left. Green Valley Lake is about 35 minutes (17 miles) from Big Bear.

Route: ALL ROADS ARE OPEN, WE ARE ON!
White Mountain – 3N17 is rated a Black Diamond, but all trails leading to it are rated easy. No member will be left behind. All can have fun on this run.
Edison Rd (2N83) --> Holcomb Valley (3N16) --> 3N11 --> 3N17 (White Mountain) --> 4N16 to meet stock group --> 3N14 --> 3N16 --> GVL

Meeting time(s):
9:00AM at the Green Valley Lake parking area for Safety and Trail Meeting leaving for trail head immediately after. Please arrive prior to 9:00AM, I will be there NLT 8:30AM. Departure should be NLT 9:15AM.
We will be stopping for chow on the trail, so bring snacks!

What to bring with you:
Good Attitude - This group is big...we'll need to be patient with each other
Snacks, food, beverages (no alcohol consumption en route please)
$ for a meal afterwards (preferably cash in case they wont split check)
Spare fluids for vehicle
Recovery gear if you have it.
Recovery point front and rear (factory hook is fine)

Edison Rd to 3N16 – Willow Canyon – White Mountain (3N17).

"Basically just a really big loop that I think would make a terrific run. The burger/malt shoppe where we start from is also a good place grind after the trip or a cold beverage at the Eagles Nest next door if you prefer."

"Took 3N16 into Big Pine Flats. Then went West(left)on 3N14 to 4N16 to 3N17, the Wht. Mtn. Trail. It says its a black diamond and it is past 3N11(eastbound), but its really just a blue square up until that point. What's cool is that the group can split up at this junction. Those that want a bit of a challenge can continue up 3N17. Those that don't can take 3N11 back to Big Pine Flats. Once back at BPF, you can take 3N14 into Fawnskin or 3N16 back to Green Valley Lake. Those who continued up 3N17 will eventually reconnect with 3N16. As Tim says its a big loop." Still editing.

I'm not a Mon-Friday guy, I just happen to have every other weekend off. I'm also off 18-19 Nov if we want to gauge how many other guys might want to do a weekday run.

I'd like to do an Anza-B run Nov/Dec as well now that it is cooling down. Once I figure out the dates I'll start a specific thread with a trail plan.

Anyone here open to camping in Anza-B. I know a pretty good spot we could camp at Friday night and then do an all day trip on Saturday. Even those who don't camp can still make it. I've got Anza-B well mapped out, done almost every trail by now. One thing we will have to watch for is flash flooding.

Nov/Dec/Jan I predict there will be multiple trips because it is the best time of the year to get out there. Apr - Sept is too hot.

I'll also be doing a day trip after the first big snowstorm to hit big bear. Snow wheeling is awesome, at least before the ice sets. When that storm happens I'll create a new thread and @ you all.

I believe clarks grade is closed with seasons first snow
if its still open I have a suggestion

meet at the ranger station off hwy 38 in mentone around 830ish
leave at 9 hit 1n12 off the 38 like 1 mile from the ranger station
Takes you back up to hwy 38 in angelus oaks to the general store
Take 38 again less than a mile to seven oaks rd and catch clarks grade

That will put us in big bear for lunch just a suggestion

In and In, I'll be keeping an eye open for these threads. Anza would probably be a good plan B as well in case Big Bear gets shut down.

I'm off work the entire week of Thanksgiving with no definite plans yet (and no Thanksgiving day plans), although I MAY go up to Lake Isabella so my son can see his grandfather (his mom's dad) All I know is I'm camping somewhere that week.
