NPA: Bilstein 47-258624 - 6112 Coilovers for 96-02 Toyota 4Runner

Tundra 6112's

I haven't seen any discussion on using the Tundra 6112's and the 5160
rears on the 3rd gen t4r's .
It looks like using the Tundra 5100's, on our 3rd gens is fairly standard . Gaining a minimum of 2". I started looking at the specs of the Tundra 6112's
As one would assume they are the same compressed and extended lengths
as the 5100's . I was also interested in the difference between the spring rate and the valving of the 3rd gen and the Tundra front 6112's .
According to the Bilstein tech I've exchanged emails with the 3rd gens 6112 coilover assembly have a 600# spring rate and the Tundra set come with
a 650# rate as well as increased (heavier) valving .

Hope this helps.

I'll be upgrading my 2000 limited with a full suite (sweeet) of Shock Works
iron (bumpers, sliders, skids, winch and lights) group buys are awesome !
I'll be using the Tundra 6112 front with about 2.5" of lift and 5160's rear
with OME 891's and looking for approx 3" of lift after it's all settled out .
Of course the 231 Tundra brake upgrade to deal with it all !

Have Fun, Max

Oh and Chas and MRT have the best $$$$ on all this and great CS

Has anybody used these with the 07 FJ Cruiser springs? I have a set that I've already installed on the rear, but I haven't yet done the fronts. This set up might be nice. The higher spring rate has been a very nice improvement on the rear ride and I'm no longer hitting bump stops on speed bumps and deep dips, my theory is that the higher spring rate will be nice on the front end as well.

to clear 285/75R16 tires, you need 3" of lift, either suspension lift or a combination of suspension lift and body lift.

6112 coils are too short to give 3" of lift so you need to replace the coils or you can add a body lift. the amount of body lift needed will depend on the position of the coil perches

I was thinking that would be the case. Thanks!

are you doing this part number for your 6112 fronts?

Bilstein Part# 47-260337

There was a black 3rd gen on one of the FB pages with installed these with 285s on LC 80 wheels. Iirc he had no body lift and an ARB front

Edit: I couldn't find that example but here they are fitting 285/75/16s on the 6112s

he may have replaced the coil springs or he may have installed a spacer lift.

i've read of some 5th gen 4Runner owners who have done either or a combination of the above.

Does it make any difference which way up the springs go? One of mine got put on with the writing upside down but I dont see any obvious issues with it.

OK I just got done installing them. The hardest part was safely compressing the coils with such thick strut bodies, I had to go to a shop who had trouble with it too (think they had a Branick machine) for $40. Of course they screwed it up the first time by forgetting the rod adapter on one of them, and put the top washers upside down. Glad I noticed it. And I have no idea what they torqued the bushing nuts to but the bushing was squished the same as the stock struts.

I set it to 8/7 setting.

I loosened the UCA bolt and disconnected the end links to drop everything down then tightened it back up when it was on the ground. Not sure if that matters but it made everything very easy. One of the Moog end links snapped so it only has one right now until I run down to Napa later.

I have OME 906 + Tundra 5100 in the rear (I think they may be on the wrong sides because I read one is actually taller than the other which I didn't notice when installing).

Driver side hub to fender is now 22.5" with nobody sitting in it.
Passenger side is about 22.75" but no end link on that side.

There wasn't any lean before on either side. It was 21" on both sides with 99 coils.

Both rears are about 22". I'm going to add trim packers or maybe 890 or 891 springs in the back.

I'll report back with the measurements after I take care of that stuff but driving around the block it felt good, no more nose dive.

Any updates on the 5160?

I can feel my oe rear struts slowly getting worse each day

.... either that or caused when I went over a speed bump at normal speed because I felt invincible with the beefy front setup :bigok:

So FYI I am clearing 285/75/16 on my set up, with minor rubbing in the rear of the fender.

Photobucket is being stupid, or I would post pics. If you want to see, my instagram is korean__kevin (2 underscores)

Would there be any issue with swapping the front coils to achieve more lift? If so what would you suggest? I'm getting a front bumper soon and I'm sure that's going to cause more rubbing.

I'm actually going this route. According to Wheelers, these should work with the current 6112. Which will prob require the perch to be set back at 0 or 1 / 2 https://wheelersoffroad.com/product...sis/eibach/eibach-coil-springs-2-5-coilovers/

Also, this should give an extra 1/2" lift for the setup for anyone that's just looking for more clearance. https://wheelersoffroad.com/product...7513/old-man-emu/poly-10mm-lift-enhancer-kit/

There is a 2000-06 Tundra 6112 System being released at the same time - the part number is 47-243729

so in essence the tundra version of the 6112 is the increased oil capacity to its predecessor the 5100's?...

is anyone running the TUNDRa version coilover of the 6112?...

.

I may have missed it in the thread, but is there another rear shock that compliments the 6112 in terms of dampening and rebound aside from a 5160?

You haven't missed anything. 5160s are still delayed to my knowledge (over a yr now). I put 890s and ome nitrochargers. The OME shock setup is terrible compared to the 6112s in the front. I am debating on getting oem LC tokico shocks.

hey guys,

so i just picked up a set of the 6112 for my 3rd gen 4runner, i was wondering if there is anything other then the top hat that i need from the old shocks for the install? Ideally i wanted to take the OEM shocks out and not really reuse anything.

I bought Monroe 904900 - Top Hats and Monroe 907926 spring insulators

Is there anything else i need from the old shocks that i need to transfer over? IE like bushings or washers?

You shouldn't need to. I think mine came with everything minus the top hat, isolator, and flange nuts
