NPA: Bilstein 47-258624 - 6112 Coilovers for 96-02 Toyota 4Runner

I am currently running Bilstein 5100s in Toyota Surf. They were installed in 2006 at 55k kilometers. Vehicle has covered 135k kilometers till now. I want to install new struts an springs.

Options i have:
- Oldman EMU ARB for 135k with installation. 2inch lift
- Ironman. Not sure about the cost yet.

Questions I have:
- Should i change right now?
- How to diagnose if these need replacement?
- Which is more durable ?
- Which one has better performance?
- Which one is better value for money?

Use:
Vehicle is used for travelling and offroading in Balochistan and Northern Area. I am based in Karachi.

Just curious because i was watching this video that this guy did an install on with 6112 (ill link the video) and around 4:00 mins he puts old bushing and washers into the new suspension.

https://youtu.be/y-zcedUsy0s

Wondering if i need i can just purchase these parts new

That's what I did, now I don't have to dismantle the factory front suspension to reuse any parts. As a side benefit, I can sell/give away the factory suspension in its entirety.

Part numbers are thus:

9094801056 strut cushion

90948A2003 strut retainer

You'll want two of both (one of each for each side).

Bro! Thank you so much for this

Has anyone put on armor and a winch up front with the 6112s? I rechecked the whole thread and several members had asked the same question, but no direct responses. Maybe because no one has yet?

I'm planning on lightweight armor, but just wondering if I'll have to go with the Tundra 6112s instead.

I'm about to pull the trigger on the Tundra 6112's but still need to decide on the
rear set up .

The Tundra 6112 's have a spring rate of 650 # and the 4runner 6112's
spring rate is 600# .
That's from an email from Bilstein .

The Tundra 6112 spring length is 15.6" and the 4runner 6112 length
is 14"
So one would assume the Tundras have more lift potential !

I have an interesting issue.

I bought and installed a set of the 6112s (BIL47-258624) as well as 5100s + OME 890 coil springs in the rear. For the 6112s, I installed the circlip on the 5th notch from the bottom on both the driver and passenger side (about half as high as I could have possibly put it, since there are 9 possible notches).

Per Bilstein's documentation (shown in the first post of this thread), this should have netted me 1-1.31" of front lift (using the estimates with the 2" lift rear springs).

I measured before and after and the rear is roughly 1.5" taller than stock, and the front is within 1/16" of the original measurements (with the stock suspension)! Has anybody heard of this happening? I am pretty sure I installed everything correctly, even had a mechanic friend help me a bit and double check the 6112s were assembled correctly. This was unexpected as there have been several in this thread who mentioned they observed more than .5" inches of lift over what the documentation estimated. The label on the driver side spring is labeled E4-FD1-Y005B41. I believe both the 6112 springs have the same label.

My rig is stock with 180k+ miles and was running the tall springs.

Any thoughts? Should I contact Bilstein?

Thanks!

Are you 100% sure you had stock springs? Not an old set of OME springs on oem shocks?

I am 99% sure, they have the same color markings as oem talls and none of the documentation I was supplied with when I purchased the vehicle indicated that any of the suspension components had been replaced.

Rather than comparing it to what your measurement was prior to installation post here what your current (post-install) hub to fender measurement is.

From what I understand a stock hub to fender measurement is generally anywhere about 20". Anything greater than that and you have lift. If you're looking for an inch to inch and a half lift. I would expect that to end up in the 21-21.5" hub to fender range.

So what is your measurement?

Has anyone ran the Tundra 5160's out back yet? Seeing as how the 4runner specific 5160's are not available yet and we seem to be getting the run around on them?

Great idea!

Pre-Lift Ground-to-Fender
Driver Front = 36 5/16"
Pass Front = 35 7/8"
Driver Rear = 35 7/16"
Pass Rear = 35 1/16"

Pre-Lift Hubcab-to-Fender
Driver Front = 21 1/2"
Pass Front = 21 3/8"
Driver Rear = 20 9/16"
Pass Rear = 20 5/16"

Post-Lift Ground-to-Fender
Driver Front = 36 5/16" (no change)
Pass Front = 36 1/16" (+ 3/16")
Driver Rear = 37 5/8" (+ 2 3/16")
Pass Rear = 37 3/4" (+ 2 1/16")

Post-Lift Hubcab-to-Fender

Pass Front = 21 7/16" (+ 1/16")
Driver Rear = 23 1/16" (+ 2 1/2")
Pass Rear = 22 7/8" (+ 2 9/16")

To quickly correct my previous statement, my rear lift is around 2-2.5".

Yeah those measurements look about right where you would expect them to land when you set it to 1-1.31" lift. You had the 99 talls which are already the tallest springs you can get from the factory. And compared to any other year you were already 1" lifted.

There is a chart somewhere and I can't find it right now but it essentially bases all of it's lift numbers off of the 1999 coils. Exactly for this reason.

Good to know! Hope some others on this thread can glean some info from this :-)

Ordered my set of 6112's this last weekend. Should be here Wednesday. I'll post pictures and measurements during and after install. MRT has the best price and was super fast to get these shipped to me. Can't wait to have them in my hands.

I'm coming from a current install of the 4Runner specific 5100's on the top clip with stock '01 springs. OME 890's in the rear.

Current measurements are:
LF: 21.25"
RF: 21.5"
LR: 22.75"
RR: 23.25"

I'm hoping to install these on the 2.3" setting and get the front as close to 22.5 as I can for a .5" rake. I'm expecting the rear to even out a little bit when the 6112's go in. Since the 5100's don't have different height settings for passenger vs driver sides and the 6112's do.

I’m very much looking forward to this & PICTURES! I hear that valve is girthy
