NY Window Tint recommendations

Hey guys, the legal limit is 70% in the front (which is like nothing), and the rear windows don't have legal limits (can be as dark as possible). I don't mind doing 70% in the fronts (especially since I don't want to get pulled over) but what do I get on the rear windows? What would look the nicest?

Also, what is the current tint on the 4Runner? In other words how much tint would I have to apply to get the fronts to 70% and the backs to whatever%? Thanks!

Don't go too dark in the back. It'll be a pain to see at night. Mine are pretty dark but I forgot the %.

My opinion would be just tinting front windows. My front tint matches the rear tint when looking from the outside. Putting a tint over factory tinted glass multiplies the effects and makes it very difficult to maneuver during the night (reversing, changing lanes, turning etc.)

5% all around.

God no, other than the fact that your going to get pulled over constantly (remember this is NY, not FL). I had 10% on my saab and at night its was pretty much impossible to see out the back, i installed a backup camera w. night vision just because i was tired of having to roll down my windows just to back up.

Check out this web-site....

Tint Laws

And in NY IF you've been given a ticket more then ONCE for the same violation that hasn't been fixed..they have the RIGHT to remove the registration AND inspection on the vehicle.

Also as an FYI: the factory "clear" glass is at 73-74% so you can't tint much for 70%. The rear factory tint tests at 27-28%. I put what would be for 35% tint (on "clear" glass) on the rear window and it tests at 11%.

Says the guy from MS.

As long as you're not driving around like an azz or bumping your music loud they won't bother w/ pulling you over just for tint. A tint ticket, 9x out of 10, is a tact on situation.

As far as seeing out of the back / sides I have no problems at all even with the 5% over the factory tinted glass. Guess I have better eyesight than most.

To each their own....

Pulled over for tints pfft never even had anything said about mine and i live in one of the worst states IL. I travel every 2 weeks for work and pretty much in every state in the midwest to the east coast never had one person say anything about them and I deal with the police every time either by choice or not by choice or both in the same day :lmao:

Tho we do it for work there are two options get the windows tinted or get the front door windows tinted and use black thick art card board cut to fit the inside of the windows. Unfortunately our job requires us to be invisible inside the car to where we aren't seen but can see out (which we have a solution for while still not being seen or removing the card board )to say the least and it doesn't matter what tint you have if you get right up to the window you can see inside with the right angle and flash light.

The card board prevents that for us and you cant see out period us. i have a back up cam but never use it as driving and reversing is no different then what i did for 10 years driving a ambulance with no windows behind to see out. using the side mirrors is all i use and never had a issue

I live by a theory its not a crime until you are caught and pay then after that you need to decide if leaving it and just paying is easier

I just got mine tinted today. I put 3M FX Premium tint. 15% on the four doors and 5% on the three back windows over the factory tint.
