Passed a smog test today, literally with flying colors - the tech was well impressed.

I did nothing special to prep for the test except make sure I had no pending codes and my emissions were well below the Average Emissions for Passing Vehicles

You passing emissions with your current idle hesitation problems is good.

Switching the throttle position sensor eliminated all hesitation flipping out and stalling issues

I get a random 420 code every night around 9 p.m. like a bat signal *slow wink*

In all honesty, I haven't seen a P0420 code since I replaced my throttle position sensor

Post again Mike if the 420 code reappears. I remember helping a friend replace a TPS on a 2000 Camry years ago that I think had the code for a bad TPS and had the 420 code as well but when he sold it eight months later it still hadn’t returned.:behindsofa:

Rear cargo LED bulb from SuperBrightLEDS.com (installed July 2016) burnt out this past week after flickering for a few days. Replaced it with a new 31mm LED from Amazon

Coincidence or do you think there is a logical connection?

Mine will always throw a 420 whenever I drive slowly (usually in off-road conditions). Live reads show the rear sensor oscillating between 0.0 and 1.0 over and over so i'm gonna swap it out for a new one coming weekend.
Original only has 303,105 miles. :cowboy:

I think it's probably related. The ECM makes decisions about performance and tuning based on sensor input, TPS is critical as is MAF and MAP and O2/AF readings.

Another weird symptom, which was actually the first concerning one (besides occasional stalling at traffic signals after stopping) was falling out of cruise control with an RPM dive and recover. I assume that was also TPS-related because that has also not happened since swapping the TPS. The icing on the cake that made me swap the TPS was not being able to kick down and the inevitable TPS code, PO121

If you can see an exhaust sensor live-oscillating (output readings) then it's probably a good place to start, and I would have considered the same for my P0420 but my AF and O2 sensors are relatively new.

For the record, the symptoms/issues that I think were TPS-related (because they haven't come back since I swapped the TPS) are:
-stalling at traffic signals after stopping
-falling out of cruise control/rpm drop and recover
-low idle
-ac relay/clutch cycling with brakes applied (stopped at traffic signal in gear)
-inability to kickdown (eventually PO121 thrown)

If I think of any others I'll add them to the list

Installed hood strut kit from 4Runner4Leon

I hope my previously failed hood strut mod attempt helped you develop this awesome, easy to install kit :D

Haha, that thread was one of the many I read when developing my kit, and it did help. Now be a pal and go update that thread to steer folks who read it over to my hood struts thread :D.

Did my first oil change in 15 months after about 30K miles. Just under 6 quarts came out and the same amount of Mobil 1 Full Syn went in with a new WIX 51348X filter. I collected a sample per Blackstone Labs' instructions and will be sending it off for analysis.

I took this opportunity to install the fumoto valve I got with my RCI skids.

Swapped rims and tires today. Off came the 17" Tundras with Grabber MTs and on went the factory 16" 5-star with Hankook Dynapro ATs - probably 3 months late in doing it but whatever. Interestingly, the Aussie Locker wants to lock the lighter 16s more than it wanted to lock the E-rated Grabbers on 17s,

Hey Mike, I also have the RCI skids and Fumoto and I look-forward to my first such oil change in the coming weeks. 30k miles though? Maybe you are experimenting (lab work request)...

30,000 miles ??
People just aren't ready for that.....you'll be stripping men of their manhood if they can't change oil a couple times a year.
