Odd port in my heater hose

Found a coolant leak in my heater hose, it's coming from this doohickey. I've never seen another 22re with a cap inserted inline like this. What's it for, and can I just run new hose and delete it?

That's part of a aftermarket flush kit most likely prestone. You can ditch it for a new hose if you want.

i believe alot of people use those as heater valve bypasses too. so when you turn the air to cold it still circulates coolant through the heater core

Yeah, it says Prestone on the cap. What's the deal there, I screw a garden hose onto the thing?

Seems like just a point of failure, to me, I think it's gone. Anybody want it?

Thats exactly what you do. Screw a hose to it, open the top of the radiator, open the valve at the bottom, and start the hose up, let it run clear (illegal in most places, dumping anti-freeze) then close it up again, drain the system, fill it back up, your done.

Its a BAD idea, they crack and leak, get rid of it.

*edit* that said I have one at the highest point in my system on the heater hose. However I have a 7m-gte under the hood and its the best way to evac the air out of the system for my custom needs. I picked one up made of metal from a hotrod shop.

You can see Prestone written on the cap.
Like said above, get rid of it.
