odometer fraud!

01thunder

Was it a real certified dealer (Toyota, Honda whatever), a car lot "dealer", or CL buy?

i will be making copies and contacting authorities monday.

I would leave this thread alone. Consult true legal guidance, and update us on the outcome.

This is all just hearsay for now.

I am sorry you're having to go through this, and learning a valuable lesson the hard way, so to speak.

What exactly is "true legal guidance?" Also, you might want to figure out what hearsay is, this ain't it.

Sigh. There's always one.

Legal guidance meaning guidance from folks that are trained in legal issues, such as the issue he's facing. A few that have been mentioned in this thread may be the police, a lawyer, office of the district attorney.

By definition, "Hearsay" is information gathered by one person from another person concerning some event, condition, or thing of which the first person had no direct experience nor can it be adequately substantiated.

Perhaps hearsay wasn't the best word to use.

What we have here is a bunch of folks using the internet, or things they have heard from other people in the past, to offer this fellow advice in his legal matter. You may have training in the area and a good deal of solid information, but I doubt it. And if you do, I am sure not everyone else does.

Enjoy your Saturday, hearno .

Trained in legal issues huh... I'm a police investigator.... I might have an idea what I'm talking about.
I might have investigated something exactly like this. Just saying.

" Information received from other people that cannot be adequately substantiated; rumor
The report of another person's words by a witness, usually disallowed as evidence in a court of law"

I didn't receive information from anyone except the op about his situation. What I said isn't a rumor.I also haven't testified.

Yeah, I'm a police investigator.... I might have an idea what I'm talking about.

Silly me, I should have known.

From experience, anyone who throws in a, "Just saying" at the end of whatever they're saying, "ain't" got anything worth listening to. Like perhaps a person with understanding of Virgina state laws, offering advice to a Florida resident.

Please spare me your story about when/where you were educated on Florida state laws.

Enjoy your Saturday, hearno . I'll check back on this thread in a few days.

No need for a lawyer. In VA at least, that's a criminal offense. It's fraud and forgery of public documents. All felonies at this level. I would contact your local police and see what they say.

weird. He was advised to contact local law enforcement to check if their laws are similar.

it is a legit dealer that also sells their cars on CL. according to the dmv, they have been around for a long time.

That's good for you. You should ask for a full refund or place criminal charges.

I would want my money back. Let them keep the truck. I wouldn't want a partial refund because they are just getting away with it. Full refund - they keep the truck.

What's the issue? If it runs good and is clean who cares what the odometer reads... I understand stuff will be more likely to break because it has more use, but you are modifying and upgrading it anyways. There's plenty of Toyotas with 200+k and no issues, and they don't even come on forums and meticulously pick the perfect oil or do anything out of the ordinary to keep it going at that mileage.

You can't be serious.

Not only are there major differences in wear between 97k and 200k+, there are also huge monetary differences between the two.

You can't simply allow yourself to be defrauded, then say "well, thats ok, 200k is pretty much the same as 97k" :dizzy:

I didn't say shit about allowing fraud, I said if the truck runs good there isn't a reason to get rid of it. And no, just because a truck has 200k doesn't mean there has to be wear difference from a 97k if it's properly maintained as it seems this truck was otherwise the guy buying it would of noticed something was up. As someone said, you can't tell a vehicles mileage by its wear and vice versa.

You said "Whats the issue". The issue is, he was DEFRAUDED. They lied about the mileage. That is a pretty big issue! And by thinking its "no big deal" you are allowing them to defraud you.

Further, there IS a SUBSTANTIAL wear difference between 97k and 200k. Just because the seats aren't worn or the carpet was steam cleaned to look new, doesn't change the fact that the rest of the vehicle has 200k. Ball joints, shocks, transmission, Tcase, drivelines, axles, engine, and the list goes on and on and on. Its insane to think that anyone would be ok with 200k when they were told 97k.

I would not want to explain the roll back to the next owner. That's enough reason to run from this. Next owner might be the insurance co if it gets wrecked or the scrap yard in another 22 years... Being that it is a crime, federal I think, the truck is a hot potato

You can't be serious. Of course there is a huge difference between 97k and 200k miles wear and tear on the engine. These engines wear out. Proper maintenance does not prevent normal engine wear.

If your lasts to 300k, great but even in that scenario 97k and 200k are very different numbers that could equate to around 6 years usable lifespan on the engine.
