Odyssey vs. Diehard Platinum Batteries

Anyone have any literature that the Diehards are in fact the same construction/materials as the Odysseys? I'm also wondering if the Diehards come in metal jackets.

both diehard platinums ( not to be confused with the reg. diehard made by a different co.) & odyssesys are made by EnerSys . other than that, no where did I find a statement saying they were exactly the same, but I did run across a site with an odyssesy rep saying theirs is made by the same company but with better materials, maybe that & being able to get the metal jacket is why they cost more. Odyssey and Sears Marine Batteries - Moderated Discussion Areas if you want/need the metal jacket you will need to buy the odyssesy

For Whitebeauty, I have the V8 & my radiator cap is also on the left near the battery.
& I put in the same battery as Desert Fox

I recently replaced my Panasonic last week, after a cold snap and after 2 days sitting the truck needed a jump to start. The battery had water so, I figured it is only time and it had to go.

I decided after reading every thread to try the Diehard marine verison of the Platnium the PM-1. The battery just fits, it does need one modification. The negative cable lead that goes to the body on the right side will need to be modified or replaced. I choose to replace it, I left the stock cable intact and created a new one with a 6 inch section of 8 gauge cable. I had it lying around so it was quick. The battery fits with no other modifications, the positive lead is long enough and the cable tie downs fit although its very close they are long enough.

Now I have a battery that will last a hell of a long time (1150 CCA's), and I don't really need to deal with those thoughts of "maybe I need a second battery".

Edit: 2 modifications, I had to trim the left side of the cheap plastic battery tray lip with a pair of scissors because the battery is wider than the stock battery by a couple inches.

Do you think it would be the same fit in my 2006 v8?

It has more CCA than the Diehard? I don't think so.

I might not have been clear in my last post, but I meant that the Odyssey had more CCA's than the OEM Panasonic. I did look at the Diehard Platinum marine but it was more expensive than my Odyssey and probably way more battery than I needed. It looks like you're running some aftermarket accessories judging by those fuse panels. I'm guessing you could justify going with the Diehard marine much more than I could.

I liked the Panasonic batteries that came in our Toyotas, to bad they are not available aftermarket.

One of the reasons I went with the Diehard is that it has enough power I should be able to not need a second battery.

That is how I justified the cost. Dual batter setups are not cheap, they take up room in the engine bay and to be honest, I don't really understand them very well.

With my set up I can power an amp, lights, radios and power outlets with no worries.

I watched the video that is posted in this thread of the Odyssey being made.

It looks like a high quality battery and worthy choice.

Diehard Platinum 31M Discontinued

Want to give everyone a heads up that Sears told me that the Diehard Platinum 31M has been discontinued and whatever stock is left is all that there is.

There are no Sears within 50 miles of me that carry it so I'll be going with the 34R baby diehard, instead of the monster 31M.
