OEM 16" rims wanted or 17" rim/tire advice

How much does toyota sell these for the 2006 4runner?

Mine is coming with the 17" Monday and I would prefer 16" rims for extra meat between the suface and my rims along with cheaper tire prices in the future.

What are my other options?

Anyone find a good bfg at/ko combo for the 17 inch rims since the 265/65/17 is not available? What about the 265/70/17s? Any rubbing issues?

I need an A/T tire that meets severe snow requirements.

I loved my bfg at/ko's on my explorer and am dying to throw some on this beautiful 4runner.

ANy advice is greatly appreaciated.

I don't know a whole lot about tires, but I am pretty sure Nokian offers various snow tires in 265/65/17. They also make an "All-Weather" tire called the "WR" that meets the severe snow requirement and is suitable for use year-round. I have seen very good reviews of the WR, but I am not sure if it is considered an A/T, or how it would perform in serious off-road conditions.

Check out Nokian's website. I have run Nokian snow tires on two sedans that I own, and they are outstanding. I run 4 studded Hakka 1's on a 1997 Subaru Legacy sedan, and that thing goes like a little snowmobile. What's even more impressive to me has been the treadlife of this tire. It is not "Q" speed-rated like a lot of other snow tires. I believe it may be "H" rated. In any case, the tread life is far exceeding my expectations for a quality snow tire.

If the WRs are as good as my Hakka's, I am sure they are an outstanding tire, and I may consider them for my 4R when the OEMs give out.

Thanks for the advice. I would like to keep the original overall diameter so as not to screw with my speedo ect. I will look at Nokian.

There are way more options for the standard 16"rim and 265/70/16 combination than the 17" rim with a 265/65/17 when looking at A/T tires.

Since they both have the same overall diameter a 16 inch is starting to look nice when you consider choices and price. The extra meat to protect my wheels is also a benefit.

My 4runner is being delivered with the optional 17inch rims.

Does anyone know how much trouble it would be for my dealor to trade or swap them for some 16 in rims/tires on another 4runner in their lot? I assume it all depends on the dealer. I would be more than happy to cover the labor and any time it would involve.

Another thought is a parts exchage through their parts department. (again if they are willing)

Any advice or experiance with similar situations is greatly appreaciated.

Have you posted in the WTB or Trade section of TRD.org? You may find someone interested in a swap.

If your vehicle comes with Michelin Cross Terrains, keep the 17's. Unless your expected to do some serious deep snow driving, you may want to move over to Yokohama Geolander

No I haven't. That is a good idea. I am going to see if the dealor I bought the car from can do anything on moday. If they can't help me out than that is a good option.

I'll keep my eye for the cross terrains. Most I looked at had the dunlops. The one I bought is coming in from Kansas City so I will have to wait and see.

I need something for deep snow. One of the places I go to is up above 9k ft and lots of snow is a part of life. The bfg's AT/ Ko's never let me down in my explorer and I am sure they would be as benificial if not more beneficial since the 4runner is a more capable rig.

The revo's have always been pricey and while they may very well be worth the money.....I would like to say with my BFG's since they did everything I ever asked of them.

It may not be possible to get a bfg in a oem size but there are a ton of more options with the 265/70/16 combo not to mention they are cheaper.

If my dealer won't work it out for me I will post in the for sale/ wanted forum like you suggested. I would do an even trade for someone who wants the 17's as long as their 16's are still in excellent condition.

Yes. If those are the standard oem 16 rims on the 06 SR5's also... those are the ones I want.

PM sent. Also, I got my 4runner in March 2005. the wheels have less than 9000mi and have been washed numerous times. No scratches or dents.
