OEM 4runner fog light 96-98?

Good question, I haven't looked but I will check that when I am near the 4Runner tonight. I was actually just going to ask about that actually. I'm assuming if I don't see the eclipse, then the wiring isn't there for the front connectors?

If you see spade connectors in two of the holes the in my opinion it’s wired to the stalk and all you need to do besides installing the stalk with the fog option is split the junction box and install the wires from the relay to your fog location.

Yep, I pretty much traced the wires all the way back to the fuse box and can't find anything, so I'm assuming the base model just didn't come with them.

(once again, '99+ only) The plug is taped to the harness that runs to the turn signals. Check again. This is my truck, after I added fog lights. The smaller of the two white/gray plugs on each side is the fog light connector. It is taped up and covered, folded back about 6" on the harness.

My SR5 also had the plug for the outside temp sensor that was Limited-only, so I think the front fender/light/horn harness is the same for all trims. I have it repurposed for the temp sensor for the JDM Field Monitor.

What does the fuse box look like if the 4runner did come pre wired? I know that in the case of ABS, if you don't have it Toyota doesn't even put the sockets in or provide any wiring. This makes it difficult to use the blank ABS spot for something else since you need to salvage the sockets for fuse/relay in order for it to be anything useful.

Those electrical sockets that you slot the relay and fuses into are crucial if you want it to be nicely integrated. If your 4runner doesn't have those sockets already, and the kit doesn't include them then your gonna have to use an external fuse and relay and find an ideal place to mount them. This doesn't make the wiring harness useless, but it means that you wont be able to integrate them nicely.

There is a modification that can be made to the factory wiring and switch configuration, but the OEM fogs only work when the headlamps are powered on, which if I were doing it over I would circumvent so you can run the fogs independently.

If you look down into the open socket where the fog lamp relay should be and you see wire terminals then you should have fog light wiring, taped up as Charlie suggested, and leading to the light stock switch on the steering column.

If the vehicle did not come with factory fogs, you will need to replace the light stock for one that has a fog light drum.

You can obviously utilize the fog lamp wiring to connect to either factory fog lamps or aftermarket fog lamps with minor modifications. This is exactly what I did to install PIAA fogs on my 99 -wheel drive

Thanks as usual, and sorry for all the questions. For some reason I could never post pictures on this site, but I checked the 4Runner high and low and definitely cannot find any connectors up front. I follow the wiring harnesses all the way back to the fuse box and even to the firewall. It also looks like the relay location in the fuse box is empty with no silver clips.

Well, there you go. The 4-cylinder models must have enough difference in the engine bay harness that they left it out. Fogs were optional on the SR5s, so the wiring was there.

It is still possible to use a factory (style) dash switch and extra harness to look OEM-ish in the cab, but you will have to wire in an extra relay as the '96-'98 guys have to. I have my off road driving lights done this way...
