OEM Audio + 5th Gen 4Runner audio system

Mission accomplished ... took about an hour and a half, end to end, including gathering the tools, cleanup, and putting everything away. The most time-consuming part was finding the end of the electrical tape to unravel ... one of the I just cut and re-taped everything.

I assumed the little white foam pads go under the new, longer screws and help keep you from over-torquing the glued tabs. I tightened them just enough to where the speaker had no slack in it.

It sounds great! Not a huge difference from before, but it already sounded great. As far as the new speakers being louder, I think I can hear that but it's certainly not detrimental in any way.

Received the Reference system about two weeks ago but finally got around to installing it in my Pro. I could not get the harness through the dash unless I removed the glovebox. There is a module in the way so that tunnel is blocked. Removing glovebox added about an hour to the installation process. Another deviation from the installation video was I routed the harness under the tube that appears to be for the washer fluid for the rear window. I didn't want that getting linked with the harness testing on top of it. Also cut the white plastic around that area to allow the harness to have a better bend. The biggest pain was reinstalling the rear door cards, I ended up spending over an hour and half on rear door speakers. It was difficult getting the top channel to fit back over the sheet metal. Entire installation took me about 5 hours.
Also I couldn't believe how cheap the stock speakers were compared to the replacement units. The magnets were like the size of a nickel.
Overall I'm very pleased with the installation and more importantly the sound. Sounds great, I'm not any professional audiophile but the sound difference is night and day. Great job to OEM Audio+.

Whatever that module is, that must be the same reason I couldn't snake the harness through. When I sent the pics to OEM A+ they said they hadn't seen that configuration with their test vehicles.

Does anyone know what that module is? I know OEM A+ wants to know so that they can adjust their installation procedures accordingly now that there has been a couple of cases where people were not able to route the harness following the original instructions. I went a totally different route through the dash rather than remove the glove box.

It's a computer for 4wheel drive control. Took a photo while the glovebox was off.

How do you guys feel this system compares in sound quality to what can be purchased for roughly the same amount from an audio shop? Say using focal/hertz/JL etc quality speakers?
Granted, you would have to factor in additional costs for install and sub box fab.
But just considering sound quality... would this be as good as $1700 worth of speakers/amps from a quality company?

That's odd since the installation video didn't seem to show that ... and when I spoke to Daniel he said they had only seen the configuration with the channel relatively open and clear. I can't imagine they only did installs in 2wd models?

IM wondering if the Target vehicle they used was an SR5 and maybe the extra box in there is for A-Trac or Crawl Control (OEM Audio Target vehicle didn't have)?? Just a thought

Has anyone worked with the company during the install? I mean... are they responsive to install questions or you on your own?? If so, primarily email and/or phone?

Stoked to hear that the sound quality is there. Not really wanting to do a major overhaul (in terms of installation), but I do want GOOD sound!!

Super responsive with questions and help. Daniel gave me his personal cell phone and made himself available well after business hours. I accidentally was shipped 2 passenger side 6x9's. Daniel sent me one via overnight shipping. Really can't say enough good things about their customer service and how they do business.

As for the sound im definetly pleased. Only 2 things I would add. A touch more bass from the sub and a remote gain control for the sub. A 10" instead of an 8" I think would be perfect. Very clean/crisp sound with good highs, mids, and low end

I provided this information to Daniel at OEM Plus and he passed this into his staff. He is very responsive to input from his customers.

Just finished my install over the weekend. Definitely better than stock but not $1600 better. I appreciate the cleaner mids/highs, but wish the bass played deeper (not necessarily louder).

If I had to do it over again, I would have just replaced the fronts with Toyota specific Focal 6x9s, add a small class d sub amp under the passenger seat, and build a 10" custom sub enclosure around the passenger side cubby area.

Damn it. If only I had known that....

:withstupid: Nope. I am stupid. I read all of this but didn't get "the channel can be removed from the door card" until I was done the last door and saw it pulled slightly away from the door panel. For the love of god if you are reading this separate the top felt window guide (with steel clips) piece from the door panel when you are reinstalling. Put it on first, before the panel. So much easier. So much less anger...
