OEM bottle jack

Hey all,

Apparently, after years of loyal service, my OEM bottle jack finally gave up the ghost. I've used it to articulate various parts of my suspension when I was installing my lift (twice), and all sorts of other noble applications. Obviously it was always too short to lift up my lifted truck without some sort of jack stand.

I went to go change a flat tire on my partner's bimmer and the poor thing wouldn't go up past where it engages that second sleeve length. The teeth where grinding on it something awful.

So my question is, do I buy a replacement OEM one or is there an after-market one that is just better in general? Would it still fit in our bottle jack holder under the rear seat? It's not a deal breaker for me since I can just toss it in my recovery box, but it would be nice!

You can troll Ebay for a bit, people are always selling them on there. They last a very long time, so you much have been pretty hard on it for it to break!

It may or may not have been involved in freeing a fully loaded (read: December rush) UPS truck that got it's rear deck stuck on the driveway drop off at my old job's warehouse. It lived an impressive life!

I see some on ebay for about $60 without the rest of the kit, so I guess I'm wondering if there is an after-market one that is better for the price?

Depending on how high you need the jack to go, any 6-20 ton bottle jack will work as good enough oem replacement. I carry a 6 ton bottle jack that I got off amazon & some bottle jack extensions from Safe Jack to compensate for my lift.

Do you keep it in the factory location? I'd be worried a hydraulic one like that would leak if stored on its side.

No because i still have my oem jack there but it does fit in the stock location. I carry it in small tool bag that's dedicated for tire stuff & I do have it on its side and it doesn't leak. Aside from some type of part failure, the only time I've seen bottle jacks leak is if the adjustment knob isn't tightened to where it's snug.

That was my first thought....I'd be shocked if they wouldn't be happy with $5 for that sort of part.
