OEM Fiberglass Fenders/Hoods anyone?

Well I am unemployed and have been messing with fiberglass quite a bit and can't stop thinking about making hoods or fenders. The only car I have around to use as a proper mockup is my land lords 02 2WD Runner and it is not a mod she would allow or justify, but she would let me temporarily use it. Like I said I'm unemployed and can't stop thinking about making them but there is no reason for me to unless......

So I guess what I am saying is if there is and interest in fiberglass fenders or hoods for a 3ed Gen Runners and I could sell say 4-5 pair of fenders at $200-250 a pair or a few hoods at $150-200 a peace. I could justify spending the money to make the molds and a test set. So would anyone be interested in a mod like this or their Runner?

(I plan to make it so you can reuse as much of the OEM hardware as possible)

I would be interested if you were to make it carbon fiber. Should be the same procedure as fiberglass.

I image it would be but my knowledge of carbon fiber is limited but I plan to look more into it, just haven't gotten there yet and I'm sorta looking at cost atm.... but who knows I could turn this into a full blown auto body empire :lmao:.... but got to start somewhere

(I don't think you can paint carbon fiber but again idk)
(I would use the same mold, but comes back to should I bother making them)

Like you said, you gotta start somewhere. I'd be interested to see the first design of fenders/hoods. You never know, you start making some good quality stuff and get your name out there business will boom. Your prices estimated seem to be a good bang for the buck especially if they stay that way. I'd be mostly interested in seeing a hood with scoop. Everyone idolizes the sport hoods and unless you find a good deal, they can be quite costly in the long run. Good luck, subscribed!

Btw, do you have any pics of previous work you've done making anything else. That would be a good start.

I figured that sport hood would be a bigger hit, but alas don't have one. I'll have to find a downer or i mite get lucky and find one in a junkyard run.

I started with boat and then auto repair, done 2 sub boxes in the past but no pics (are now on the other side of the country) I do however need to do a front valance repair now to save some money. Going to do a small mod to that fat lip and i will most diffidently post before and after pics here.

(this repair got me thinking about making fenders and hoods lol)

BTW nice rig you got there, I plan to make one peace fenders with that flare for the off-roaders. but are those factory flares or what. That is what i pic in my head when i think about a off-road set.

Thanks!! Those are the factory limited fenders.. they come on all the limiteds along with the cladding down the side. Mostly two tone as well.

Check out the company called Glassworks Unlimited and another called Toyota Fiberglass

Only glassworks provides aftermarket pieces for the 3rd gens, and it's fenders. I haven't heard much from Toyota Fiberglass, and for all I know they are out of business.

Be good to see some more aftermarket fiberglass products for our 3rd gens and yes, especially a scooped hood

I would be interested in a hood scoop for my runner ...... but I've been planning on going with Hannemann fiberglass, there prices are pretty good and know they fit well, if you actually start making some post some pics and if they look good you never know i might be interested

Fenders and hoods might be a hard sell only because the fenders and hoods are so cheap and the probably lighter too.


I say to go ahead and make Fiberglass snorkels for the 4runner.

You can get the head off of ebay.


If they came out good, I would buy one.

If you really want to make a smash with the sport hoods, make the inner scoop portion. After all, that's the most expensive part of the hood. My sport hood was 60 bucks, but the scoop was 175... but that's including the parts that go inside that, too, like the mesh and such.

well i think i have decided to go ahead and make hood for now... got the seed money and a guinea pig big truck... going to stats by running to a few junkyards to steal a hood scoop (thx ChildrenOfBodom i will try to make that in a one peace hood or just make them separately. but i now know to look for it) So I will be making 3 basic hoods and 3 scoop hoods to test in the next month or so.

Any 4runner car clubs out here in the Phoenix area? I'm looking to join one or at least find a few trucks to test my hoods for a month or so and let me use them for pics.

(doing the suspension and a tune up atm so i haven't gotten to the front valance repair/mod yet, but i do have before pics and its off the truck... hell the truck is still on 4 jack stands..... i need to get out there i think lol)

Well to anyone that may have been counting on me to make these hoods, I am sorry. after getting sick and my computer frying (still w/o one) there is no money left to start making hoods. its a same too i fingered out how to make it bolt-on without any worry... but guess i wasn't suppose to make fiberglass hoods
