OEM Muffler Advice

Hi All,

I had to replace my OEM muffler just over a year ago with a Walker Quiet Flow. The Walker has since developed a rattle and is leaking. They have a good warranty and are sending me a replacement.

However, I was able to find a used OEM muffler locally off of a 2000 federal emissions type. I currently have the Cali emissions 4Runner. Do the federal mufflers have the same placement of exhaust hangers as the Cali type? They look pretty similar based off of pictures from Toyota Parts websites.

I really like the idea of having the OEM quality and understand that I'll have to commission a local muffler shop to cut the front of the pipe and weld it the the cat.

I really like my Napa complete cat back exhaust. It's not even really rusting yet and between the wrecked 96 it came off of an my 97 SR5 it's got between 8000 and 10000 miles and around 5 years

Is the exhaust quite? I want.something close to oem No use but perform better advise?

I put on a Walker exhaust setup a year and a half ago and have had good luck so far. The install was easy and it has held up well to multiple off road trips. The exhaust is very quiet too which is something I really like since I drive it so much.

The Napa is quiet too. All flanges were made correctly and exhaust bolted together with no issues. I just wish I knew what I did with the half moon support bracket at the back of the Cat flange. I lost it during the engine swap into my 97 SR5.

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll have to take a look. I’ve installed the replacement muffler with some new exhaust flange gaskets and it sounds much better now. No more rattles and leaks! Hopefully the replacement will last longer than one winter.

The Walker is pretty quiet but is not as quiet as OEM.

The walkers I used on my Saturn S series never lasted more than 4 years. Even the one advertised as stainless.

The Napa is quiet.

Good question. I have yet to purchase a 4Runner that still had the stock original exhaust on it. Napa is local, I have a account to get a 25% discount so I went Napa. Never priced the muffler and tailpipe from the dealer.

Edit. Just looked at the Napa options again and I kind of remember paying around 500 now that I think about it for both. There is a stainless for 240 dollars and a aluminized option for 270 dollars also besides the standard 153 dollar muffler.

Only 1 tail pipe option and its aluminized for 114.

I found my receipt. I have the standard aluminized muffler and it and the tail pipe was purchased may of 2013.
