Hey All,
Tried searching, but realized my case is "different". Trying to get an aftermarket camera that runs on 12v. Trouble is, the factory NAV puts out 6v. I have the OEM camera, but saw that I'd have to do alot of modding to get it to fit correctly on the stock location on the tailgate. Eff that.
Most cameras run on 12v and some require a trigger. The kit I got has the wire, but the OEM NAV doesn't require a trigger (trigger= signal that tells the HU that the camera is on and to switch to camera screen, correct?). The screen goes to camera mode when it is put in reverse and it detects a camera (I installed the NAV years ago, but never connected a camera, so when putting it in Reverse, the screen never changed over). Anyway, instructions say NOT to connect to reverse lights b/c in order for the NAV screen to pick up the video, the camera has to have power bEFORE it switches over. Whatever. So, my concern is, if I connect the camera to an ACC 12v, wouldn't that "damage" or "wear out" the camera if its constantly getting 12v?
1) Where to connect the 12v source?
2) Another option is to connect a voltage doubler (getting power from the NAV head unit.

Am I just overthinking this and just connect the damn the camera to a 12v source and be done with it?
